Upon removal for clutch/tranny work, I see that my transfer case is leaking at the shift shaft seal. Fixing it doesn't look too bad so I ordered a seal kit.
What kind of sealant is best for the transfer case halves? It kind of looks like some kind of silicone RTV on there now. That makes me think to use the Permatex Ultra Black. Is the Ultra Grey better for this kind of application?
When I seal motorcycle case halves I generally use something non hardening like Yamabond #4, Hondabond or Threebond 1104. Would those be better?
I've never used them, but I know that there are anaerobic sealants for this kind of application. What do you think about these and what are the brands and part numbers?
I just don't want it to leak and I'd like to use the best option as long as it's not crazy expensive.
