first hit on a google search was a guy that put one in his powerstroke and it blew up in 5 miles. second blew up after 20k miles.
most of the other hits are from the cummings boyz swearing they are as good as their gold plated cummings engines that make 50000 hp and 15000000 ftlbs torque while still getting 74 mpg pulling a 4 million lb trailer uphill at 90 mph.

I would be pretty skeptical of the condition of the truck. There's a lot of added on weight on the front end. You will need to be the judge of you look at it. You may want to come to your own conclusion if you think the guy has beat the truck pretty hard. It may not be worth the price he's asking like others have said here. Could end up costing you a lot of money to repair what he has bat to death. You said the dana 60's a pretty strong axle, but a 1000lb engine, those heavy semi tires and a bumper that probably weighs 600 lbs is taxing it pretty severely. It's the equivalent of a Dana 30 up there now. Good luck.

Pure speculation, but when I read this in the ad:
"Just had the front wheel bearings, and rear U joints replaced, as well as the drive shaft carrier bearing, front steering linkage, all new glow plugs, and had a new alternator, serpentine belt, and idler pulleys put in a little under 1000 miles ago."
I suspect it had or still has some vibration or rough-running issues, so lots of whirlybits were replaced trying to isolate it. Just a guess.

**UPDATE**
Well I went and looked at the truck yesterday. I decided not to buy the truck and here are my reasons why:
1) The owner had been running a DP tunner at it max setting for this daily driving.
2) The truck had 41" semi truck tires but the shift points for the automatic transmission were never adjusted to better work with the large tire.
3) The 8" lift was accomplished using two 3" blocks and one 2" block stacked in the rear and a set of four 1" blocks in the front.
4) The wheels are tires were never balanced. This caused the truck to ride with a good amount wobble down the street.
5) The motor was stock for the most part but had a K&N filter on it for most of its life.
6) The truck was on its original set of injectors and after cycling the glow plugs twice it took 3 attempts at cranking to start the truck at an ambient temperature of 43 degrees.
7) There was rust on the bottom of the rocker panels and the underside of the bed. The owner had sprayed expanding foam into the bottoms of fenders.
8) A new brake line was run to the rear axle using brass fitting from Home depot.
9) There was a lot of wire splicing going on with the harness.
Overall the truck looked tired and worn out and all the DIY mods looked very poorly done, The wiring in particular.

Boy with all that going on with the truck he sure did hype it up. Good that you Dodged it. (see what I did there) But that truck is the reason that the 6.0 has such a bad rep. You can flog these 7.3s and they keep driving, maybe not healthy or strong but they just refuse to die. And to that dude if it starts it must be good; what's good, is that you're more sensible.
