Cracked the radiator fixing Degas Nipple
Went to put a t-stat in the truck, $21 at Autozone.
Of course you don't have too, but looked way easier to pull the CAC and Upper Hose - started to pull the CAC. - as usual the sucker came off with a bang, but this time I hadn't pulled the degas line. Broke the connector off at the rad.
No big deal - I googled it and found the DeiseltechRon video - bunch of people here seemed to do it and have it go ok.
So I pick myself up a NPT tap, NPT fitting and go to town. Tapping goes well, I slowly get the brass fitting nice and snug in the rad - this is looking good, really good. I give it one last little tap with the wrench and CRACK goes the tank on the rad.
Cracked from my (new) hole to the main coolant hose nipple.
Can't win .
Before I cracked it - the NPT nipple fix looked and felt really strong. I had blue lock tight on the threads, and I would say it was a good solid fix. Don't over tighten it!. Note: I'm doing all this in a state park in the dark. Good times!
JBwelding it now, but we tow heavy daily I don't expect it to to last.... So - who makes a good welded tank Rad? I heard the mishimoto one was a step backwards on the temp front....

I appreciate the coupons - as we are currently camped out in a state park - I ended up taking it to a local shop. Just nowhere to work on it here - that's why I got myself in trouble in the first place.
$458 later - new Radiator. The radiator is from Performance Radiator out of AZ so it carries their warranty. The shop put in Green coolant initially, so they had to do a full flush and redo it with yellow.
Hell of a expensive $21 thermostat job....(how I broke the degas nipple)
