Exclamation High Iron and Aluminum in UOAs.

First time posting in the 6.4 forum.

My brother has a stock 2010 6.4 that has about 110,000 miles. He uses around the farm and to pull 26,000 lb trailer locally.

I pulled a sample after running John Deere +50 II 15W40 and again after running Schaeffer's 9000 5W40 full syn.

My question is why the high Iron and Aluminum? I thought the Schaeffer's would have helped to bring those numbers down some.

Hopefully the analysis sheet will attach below.

While I am all for decreasing the oil change interval, in a 6.4, oil has no bearing on injector service life since the 6.4 has fuel pressure driven injectors .

the aluminum is probably from the pistons. Try using some fuel lube such as opti lube.

be careful with 15w40 if the weather temps are low

We've been running Schaeffer's soy sheild with good results so far on the fuel side.

Next oil change we'll be putting John Deere Torque Guard(it's diesel rated) 10W30 in and running no more than 5k miles.

If the wear numbers don't come down soon I may try to convince him to get rid of it.

check the manual, 10w30 is a winter grade oil....from memory on the high side it's not rated too far above 50 / 60 degrees .
