Brass would be too soft and not as pliable as the bushing.

You do not need the whole striker, all you need is the plastic bushing I mentioned and you get a set for $3.

That is all you need and as I said you can get a set for $3 on ebay and be done with it.

Hi,
I thought of that?

But the ones I found on ebay are cheap enough!

If they don't last I will make some out of nylon.

This is easy to get at a used Indusrial Wharehouse!

Check at Oreillys or another parts store. I was using air brake nylon tube and cutting it to length. This is before you could buy them anywhere. Can't remember if the size is 1/2 or 5/8 ID.

I cut a fuel line the length of the bushing area and then cut it length way and just pushed it over the pin. The fuel line ID is slightly smaller than the pin but it's no problem. The doors shuts perfect with little effort and no rattle at all. So far they are holding up much better than the nylon.

How do you get the bolt out of the striker assembly? I bought the bushings and removed the torx bolt, but the bolt will not come out of the U-shaped assembly. I can't figure out how I can replace the bushings.

The bolt will come out. Just keep tension on it while you adjust to keep turning it out. Hopefully you marked the position with painters tape before you started. That helps making the re-install easier.

I fixed mine with a steel 1/2"id x5/8"od bushing from local hardware. Just bought the truck. Strikers looked in good shape, had a real thin nylon skin on the striker. But, sure would chatter when you hit a pothole. Not now.....its the simple fixes that are most gratifying.Dan

I've been using thick wall 1/2" copper pipe on all my obs trucks for quite a while (over a decade) because it's simply what I have on hand.

I used a self amalgamating heat shrink tube that is commonly used in electrical work. Prior to that I purchased a set of the dorman strikers with the bushings however the diameter of the bushings was to large to allow the door to latch. Ended up getting my money refunded for that.
