5th Wheel Center Bunk Options

Hey all,

Looking to upgrade our current 5th wheel to a 5er with a bunk, since our new addition. I was curious what are my manufacturer options on a unit with the center bunk, that's an appealing lay out for us and wed like to find something. Locally we've only found the Jayco North Point and Columbus RV's that offer the center bunk. Both of these models are sold by a dealer near me that is well less than stellar.

Just wondering if anyone has a center bunk type 5er and what you have. Our plan is to order the unit so we can get the better tires, 2 A/C units, and automated leveling. Anything else I should add to the list?

Thanks,

Sarge

The option I took was the Keystone Avalanche 40' 365MB sleeps 8+ GVWR 15500. Use F350 DW 6.7. Quality VG. The tires are 110PSI. Big difference in towing. DW enjoys the camper. I enjoy the tow and ease of set up.

Keystone has several mid bunk campers. Good hunting.

Thanks,

That's a little heavy for me right now I'm only in a SRW at the moment. I was looking to get away from keystone, the current 5er is a keystone and well quality is less than desirable. Now part of that issue is my crappy servicing dealer here so I'm trying to avoid them.

While searching out an oddball floor plan I found that Open Range has a center bunk floor plan too. Don't remember model number but they don't have a ton to look through. After reading stories on here, I would also avoid Keystone.

For our use with the baby I think I like the toy hauler best. But I'd love 2 more feet of living space and 2 less of garage now.

We did look at the toy hauler option too but for right now it just doesn't fit the need, and like you said we'd like to have the xtra living room in the event that the baby eventually would bring friends with us camping.

I looked at a Montana this past fall that had a bunk room in the center of the floorplan. It was super nice. No idea what the model number is though.

I wouldn't even look at a Montana after how Monty (golfmedic) has been treated. Honestly with everything I've read I don't think I'd look at any Keystone product. My Forest River product hasn't been perfect by any means, BUT Forest River has stood behind it without me ever having to contact them.

I was following his struggle, and its just so disappointing to hear that as Montana has always been at the top of the list of quality RV's.

Still not sure what route we are going. I made the mistake of going to the local dealer just to look and they were in full vulture mode. I of course didn't have my SD with me when I went, had the Tacoma, and they salesman was asking what I was looking for, so I told him and he laughed at me and said you cant pull anything with that little truck. I was so pissed off, I said youre right but my 06 SD can pull anything in this lot with ease, now please leave before things get worse for you.

So we walked away, and he came back a short time later and I told him that not only will I not talk to him IF and that's a big IF I decide to buy an RV I will go out of my way to go to another sales person!

WTH is wrong with people today, always judging on the first impression, he didn't know anything about me, never even said hello or introduced himself, just made a snide comment about my little Tacoma!

Grand Design has a 367BHS that has the center bunk. I really like the Grand Design RVs now. Although, I think they were just bought by Thor IIRC. Still I love their units..

We looked at several mid bunk units before buying a rear bunk Silverback 37BH. A few things to consider:
1. Mid bunk houses are smaller than rear bunk houses
2. If they also have a loft, lofts don't work well for multidle kids as they have to climb over each other to get to the bathroom. We just sold our loft unit now that our oldest is a teen.
3. I've never seen a mid bunk with two bathrooms; 2 bathrooms is super nice with kids.
4. Few mid bunk units have an outside kitchen, which was a must-have for us.

pros & cons with every rig. My biggest concern with the longer units is that you will have a hard time finding places to park it. Most of the places in Indiana won't hold a 37 footer. We are even sometimes limited with our 33' TT.
