Didn't read this in the Book

Finally got all the bits and pieces assembled on my under the cab power brakes. Went to start bleeding the brakes and when you get off the brake pedal it makes a metal on metal noise. When I looked this is what I found.

The pedal misses the bumper by an inch.

Any others run into this problem? Any solutions?

You could move the bumper but if the pedal misses the bumper, what is the pedal position in the cab? Might be to close to the column?

John,
The rag joint hits the column. I could use a u joint but thought the rag joint would cut down on some of the steering column vibration. Thought about bending the pedal but I'm not sure that will fix the issue. Right now the pedal hits the seam between the firewall and the floor. You can sort of see it in the first picture.

It may be the camera angle, but it doesn't appear the pedal is in line with the booster by about the same amount?

So if the pedal arm was in line with the bumper, would the arm still hit the floor lip or hit the bumper first?

I tried using one of the under the cab brake boosters on my 49F1 and ran into the same trouble with the pedal hitting the column and tried shimming it over out of the way and I gave up because too many issues and went with a firewall mounted set up.

To keep it from hitting the seam shorten the rod between pedal and booster. To make it hit the bumper bend the pedal arm.

Ross,
Not sure what would move the pedal but I'll check it out.

John,
I think it still would hit the lip.

Dave,
Hopefully between Ross' observation and your info I'll get this brake thing licked.

Tracy,
I hope I don't have to change to a firewall mount. I'm trying to keep the engine bay clear of stuff.

Some of the aftermarket brake pedal arms are straight, where the originals are shaped.

Jason (Jrockdiddy) ran into the same thing.

Have you checked your cab mounts? If the cab has shifted then that would cause the pedal to miss the floorpan mounted bumper.

Pete,
That was my first thought so I checked and it was within 1/4" side to side. I'm thinking I'm going to have to bend the arm but I'm not sure that's going to help the hitting the seam even then.

I'm not sure that I would do that. Should be OK but you wouldn't want that pedal to break. I assume that the pedal mount is not stock?
