There are some earlier forums on FTE. You might try there. Good Luck.

here's a link to a OM for a '96 if it helps. Around page 224 are the towing tables.

That would be great if I was rich and could afford a newer truck, but this one I own and it has been gone through with lots of improvements and upgrades, as well as engine and tranny rebuild 100,000+ miles ago. Truck is pretty sound and runs great. I'm not wanting to go much bigger with fifth wheel only about 5' longer and from looking at weights of trailers I am looking at should be well within towing specs, after the info I've gotten here. Thanks so much everyone for all the info, glad I found this forum! I am single female but grew up working on vehicles and motorcycles. Just don't always have all the info, (and sometimes strength or size for working on big vehicles) I have back passenger side door apart right now trying to figure out why manual lock will not move at latch. Lubed it but still can't get lever to move. Button and rod work but where it goes thru plastic clip into lever the lever won't move. Hoping I don't have to replace whole latch mechanism. Anyone had one of those apart? Repairable?

Doesn't matter hoe old/new the truck is or what improvements you have made.... it depends on safety and the original Ford numbers. Depend NOT on how much you can tow.... it's how much you can STOP that counts!

Reading through that PDF sure does show how the trucks today have improved as towing beasts. Make you wonder what another 10 years in advancements will bring besides a larger $$ on the MSRP.

You never did say what you are pulling now.... Do you know what IT weighs and the pin weight? It'll be the pin weight and the tire limitations that'll stop you with the bigger RV.

Pulling a 30' PrimeTime crusader fifth wheel 8500lbs actually rated for half ton but I wouldn't pull with half ton. I'm getting Anderson hitch to lighten the load

Hey there. I actually just created this video that may help you in your journey of trailer towing. If you watch the video I hope you found it to be useful and educational

Also BTW I just recently installed a Reese Fifth Wheel Hitch in my 01 F350 Long Bed, and also scored myself a Goose Hitch to go with the Fifth Wheel
