new truck, not firing? need help

hey guys,
just picked up another dent, 76 f350 390fe 4 spd.
its turning over, but not firing.
the last owner has a custom gas tank rigged up, and doesnt seem to use the in cab tank. the tank selector is on the floor, which i am unfamiliar with as mine is on the dash panel on my 79.

1) do you point the selector handle or the opposite side of the handle in the direction of the fuel line. im not getting fuel to the engine and i think i dont have the selector in the right place.

2) not getting any spark,
the wiring is a bit of a mess, and im not familiar with the ignition set up. it has a single wire from the distributor to the ignition coil, and the two wires coming from the coil back to the harness.
only one of the two plugs on the ignition module is plugged in, the 4 prong female plug is not hooked up to anything. is this the correct set up?

where should i start?
any direction will be helpful!
cheers

I'd start with reviewing a wiring diagram... call me crazy.

okay so i cleaned up all the dead end wires and got things tided up abit.
I have a single wire coming from ignition coil to distributor,
second wire coming from the ignition coil runs up to the fire wall (first picture).
from there it runs down to a plug where the harness comes out of the driver side firewall.(2nd and 3rd picture)
Last thing that doesn't seem correct is the second plug coming from the ignition module isn't hooked up to anything.(4th picture)
can anyone shed some light on this? im not getting spark and i think the wiring to distributor isnt right.

No, not normal. A normal distributor has the three wire harness. There are HEI distributors with the coil built-in, and they may be "one-wire", but that's definitely not a standard thing, and without pictures, I'm just guessing.

Well, the last pic looks like the two connectors that go to the ignition module. Generally, they're both plugged-in. Post up a couple pics of the distributor so we can see what we might be talking about

Sounds to me like someone swapped in a points distributor. If so you will need a key-on hot to the coil. That's probably what the wire in the first picture is intended for, and it most likely was plugged into the port on the square plug that has the two red wires together. Also looks like they wired it through a circuit breaker (mounted on the cowl) which is unnecessary.

The empty module plug (3rd pic) is where the original Duraspark distributor harness would have plugged in.

More pics of the distributor and coil would help. Pop the cap off to verify points.
