I see no difference in fuel ecconomy with my hubs locked. My truck is a 9200lb dually 4wd , 296k on orginal injectors and i still average 14-15mpg in the winter. I just towed 4k (empty) trailer over 200 miles and averaged 13.6mpg on those tanks. Something is definitely wrong. Have you swapped an IDM yet? Maybe someone put the wrong one in not sure how well the wrong ones will work? 3 miles is really short though. Start plugging the truck in each night, that will defnitely help. Have you driven it any great distance? Maybe you have a ton of condensation in the oil pan getting pumped through the injectors if you're never getting the oil hot enough to boil it out. After it's sat all night pull the plug and see if there is any water in it.

Well mines a cab and chassis, bigger frame with 9ft dually utility bed, lots of tools, lift gate etc a regular truck is probably 1500 to 2000lb lighter

Well since you don't want to do any actual testing with a multimeter or purchase a scanner to try to actually see what's going on with the truck lets try math.

Let's say you drove to work 3 miles and it takes 10 minutes assuming your truck is able to get 15mpg. That's 20 minutes of driving per day at 15mpg. Let's say you idle 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes throughout the day. That's 40 minutes at 0mpg. So 20 minutes of the day divided by the 60 minutes total the truck is running gives us 33% of run time is actual driving. 33% of 15mpg is 5 mpg.

Try placing a cardboard in front of the radiator. I notice mine would run better and get slighty better MPG's when half the radiator is blocked during winter.

It's not a matter of "not wanting to do any testing". Plugging the truck in is LITERALLY not an option because there are no exterior outlets and I park too far away from the house to safely run an extension cord out to the truck anyway. I've already stated that i will test the glow plugs with a multimeter, I just haven't gotten to it because I have quite a busy life outside of my truck. Buying a scanner is on my " to do " list, but at the moment i don't have $500 to drop on an AE setup. And in my small community, I've not been able to locate a mechanic that has an appropriate scanner to use.

It seems to me a question was asked and answered the best way people can. Until you have more information to provide people can't give you more direction unless someone else knows the answer but how could someone know the answer without further info? Take it to a shop, do some testing or keep fueling it up. We are here to help if we can.

Yes, it probably has been answered the best it can be. I need to do some investigation on my end before I can provide more info.

I've been wondering if I may have a boost leak somewhere. I read that that will kill fuel economy. I need to get some gauges so I can actually watch the boost numbers.

With how much it is smoking, you can get under the truck while it is idling and just look for white smoke squirting out of piping connections. That is how I found my up pipe leak before I went to bellows.

Thanks guys! Yeah they are 7.3L emblems, not 6.7L although the truck did almost get a 5.9L when i was 4 hours into cutting the passenger side exhaust manifold off to replace a broken bolt
