Plastic Interior Trim Repair

Either this hasn't been specifically covered or I'm just not using the right search terminology. What is the best thing to repair broken plastic interior pieces? Specifically I need to fix my driver's side A pillar trim that is broken off at the lower screw. PVC cement, a jb weld product, epoxy, something else?

Subscribed. I can tell you what WON'T work. It's a binary epoxy called PC-7. Works great on metals (I've repaired three rusted fuel filler necks with it), and hardens REAL hard. Similar to JB-Weld. I tried it on the hinge cover for the jump seat / console on our 40/20/40 seat. Fitted the pieces together and slatherd the stuff on the back side of the work. It hardened up real nice, but just didn't stick to the plastic.

PVC cement probably won't work, because, well, it's not PVC. It's probably ABS or PS or something. There should be a symbol somewhere on the back side of the part indicating the material. But I don't think I've ever seen PVC used as interior trim material.

I use this on all plastics. Gives you plenty of time to set it perfectly as it doesn't dry till you spray the activator. Then I coat the back side with epoxy for added strength

Haha true. I thought I had heard of pvc cement being usable on ABS but was hoping to skip the learning curve if not. Hopefully we'll get some solid answers though. I used jb water weld on my filler necks too and it's perfect. Stinks it won't work on plastic.

Doesn't work well on plastics that will be flexed in use, but filling a gap, crack or seam with baking soda, then soaking it with superglue works well. Or, where the superglue isn't setting up because there is too much gap, or you want a 'filler bead', you can sprinkle/pour baking soda into the fluid superglue, and it will set up hard.

Not pretty though.

I've used fiberglass repair mat and ABS plumbing glue to repair interior parts. A layer of glue, a layer of mat and then glue again on the backside will usually hold it together.

Haha that makes way more sense. Yeah I've found a few on there but would like to give repair a try before shelling out the eBay jack.

I have a '97 F350 parts truck with red interior, if the other guy doesn't have one I'll check to see if mine is good.
