2008 F-150 XL - Need info

Looking at getting another truck.

This truck came up locally for sale on CL...

2008 F-150 XL. 4.6L auto. Crew cab. 4X2. No options.

I would like to tow my 3500# boat.

Since this does not have the tow package I have several questions....

1. What was included from Ford when tow package was ordered? I'd assume...larger radiator, trans cooler in front of radiator, hitch, wiring harness with 7 pin connector, heavy duty turn signal flasher, larger amps battery, and heavy duty -higher amp alternator

2. Can these options be added or it will never be the same as if were originally added?

3. How can I look up the VIN to determine rear axle ratio? I believe it is a 3.55

4. Is this truck designed to tow without the tow package?

5. Where can I find the tow specs with and without a tow package?

6. This truck can be had for $8500. Is this a fair price?

Thanks!

From what I can recall correctly, bigger transmission cooler than stock, hitch & 7 pin connector/harness. I think the radiator might have been a little bit bigger but for towing #3,500 pounds the stock will do just fine.

2. Can these options be added or it will never be the same as if were originally added?
The options can be added depending on how far you want to go with it. For example, you can get a hitch, 7 pin connector and wiring adapter that plugs into the factory harness. An aftermarket transmission cooler (or a stock one from Ford with the towing package) can be added.

3. How can I look up the VIN to determine rear axle ratio? I believe it is a 3.55
Plug the VIN number into the ETIS website and it should show you everything this truck came with from the factory including the axle ratio.

https://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do

4. Is this truck designed to tow without the tow package?
Well, it wouldn't be much of a truck if it couldn't tow without the factory tow package... Having the towing package from the factory just has most of the features already instead of having to go the aftermarket route of getting a hitch, 7 pin, wiring harness, etc. This is why the bumper (with or without the factory tow package) still allows a ball to be mounted to it to tow without having a hitch (although I'd recommend using a hitch personally).

5. Where can I find the tow specs with and without a tow package?
Once you have the info from the ETIS website in #3 you can look up the owners manual for that year and look to see what they show for the towing specs.

https://owner.ford.com/tools/account...r-manuals.html

6. This truck can be had for $8500. Is this a fair price?
Depends on the mileage, condition, how does it do mechanically, prior maintenance, etc. Need more information before making a decision like that if it were me.

Hope this helps somewhat.

If it's the white one that I've seen listed on CL, it's a very nice truck. But it's a bit expensive. Is it the white long bed? If so, check around, lots of other trucks for less money.

Thanks for the info and links.

It is a silver one listed for $10,500.

It has 109K miles and service records for past six years. Owner purchased it in 2010 as a Certified vehicle from dealer. It is/was his daily driver. Again, it is a stock XL model with only PW,PB,PS and AC. Nothing fancy

I can get it for $8500
