EPA Accuses Chrysler-Fiat of selling Dirty Diesels
Uh-Oh Looks like the EPA is going after the Automakers who aren't living up to emissions standards set out by the EPA and looks like Chrysler-Fiat is the cross hairs.
From the story: SOME 24 HOURS after the Department of Justice indicted six Volkswagen employees for their alleged roles in the a cheating diesel scandal, the Environmental Protection Agency has accused Fiat Chrysler of the same kind of thing.
Today, the EPA and the California Air Resources Board issued a notice of violation to FCA alleging the automaker installed—and didn’t disclose—software that results in increased nitrous oxide emissions beyond the legal limit on some of its diesel-powered cars. Regulators haven’t yet said what the software was actually for, and whether it constitutes some kind of deliberate attempt to cheat anti-pollution tests. The accusation covers Jeep Grand Cherokees (from 2014 to 2016) and Dodge Ram 1500 trucks powered by 3-liter diesel engines. It’s 104,000 cars in total.

CARB and the EPA slammed Volkswagen pretty hard, it will be interesting to see if the Chrysler -Fiat things is going to be a series of checks against all the Auto Makers after the VW scandal. If it is this wont be the last of it, I would imagine GM and Ford will be getting a look see as well.
I wouldn't want to be an Exec with Chrysler-Fiat after seeing how they went after Volkswagen execs. Ought to be interesting to see what happens going forward

Have a neighbor in CO that got one of the early 2014 Cherokee with the diesel. They ordered, waited for it, when it arrived dealer upped the price - take it or we have others who will. Nothing but problems with the diesel, sold it and got a gas version.
Makes the known issues of my 6L easier to handle vs a $50k new headache.

I'd have told them to stick the car where the sun doesn't shine and walked out.

I second that. There are some dealers that dont live up to their agreements even when it is in writing, but those are the folks were you just take your money and walk, always someone else willing to take your business.
