looking at a 08 3v v10 with 6 speed !

Well folks I found the "Holly Grail" to me of trucks. It's a one owner '08 F350, Super cab, v10, 6 speed stick, even has the 4:30 gears, and only 66K miles. One owner, from Mid west, no rust supposedly!!!!

Negatives for me, Gold, XL, crank windows and ugly black lights and grill etc. I can swap out most of these.

So currently have a 01, f350, XL, 5 speed stick v10 with 4:30 gears and 166K. I love my truck and love my stick shift but the odds of finding a newer version have been next to non till now.

So Here's my questions:
How's the 3v vs, the 2v v10?
Anyone running a 6speed and a 3v v10?
Do the 3v' s still have the exhaust man stud issues, etc? What else is there to watch out for?
08. looks like maybe it's heavier then my 01, does it suck up the extra power of the 3v.
Hows millage 3v vs. 2v?
Was 08 a good year or a transition year?
Are there options for exhaust etc.?

Give me what you got. I'm all ears! Thanks!

Glad you found your holy grail! I was very happy to have found my 6 speed V10 as well.

-Historically the 3v's don't get as good fuel mileage as the 2v's but they aren't far off. I get about 13mpg unloaded on the highway at 68ish mph.
-I believe the 2v's had the exhaust stud issue but I have heard of the 3v's developing manifold leaks (mine has a minor one). Might be wrong.
-08 was sort of a transition year, the 3v have been unchanged since 05 except for fixing the two-piece spark plug issue in late 08. If you have an early build then you may still have the two piece design. I changed mine at 45k and they weren't a problem.
-I haven't owned a 2v but I have driven a few and the 3v is by far the better truck.
-As far as exhaust goes, it's hard to make these puppies sound any better IMO. Someone else may say otherwise.

Congrats again on finding your truck. I'd say that the V10/ZF-6 combo is one of, if not, the best kept secret as far as reliability/performance goes.

Thanks for the reply. I do love my 01 v10, and have been really thankful I didn't go diesel many years ago as mine has been fantastic and most of my diesel owner buddies have paid through the noise owning there trucks. I just want to get a feel for how much of an upgrade is an 08 would be. As for mileage, I've always got 11 for the most part in my 01 with 4:30's and 295 75R16's. I'm really a stick shift guy, My days have been numbered as far as finding a good used low mile 6 speed in a Ford.

I hear you there! I looked for about 3 years for this truck, and coincidentally it was exactly how I would have ordered it off the line and it only had 43k miles. Nobody wants to let go of the V10's at an early age. I think you'd be very happy with the upgrade. Let us know if you do end up getting it!

If I came across a great condition lower mile 2008-2010 V10 with the manual, I don't think I could pass it up. I miss all of my ZF-6 trucks.

That's a good find. I am a V10 fan and am always following the used market. I hesitated on a beauty 2010 V10 after a morning test drive. The truck sold by the time I called back that afternoon to buy it!! Up here in Canada used V10s go for more that their diesel counterparts!!. I just found a beauty low mile 2009 "grampa" truck. Bought it 1 day after it went up for sale. A 6 speed 10er would be a treat!! May be tough for you to pass up. I hear ya about it being an XL model. The higher trim levels are sweet. I like at least a lariat but this one I just bought is only an XLT. I will cope with it!!

Well guys I'm still on the fence. It was in pretty good shape Ex Gov. vehicle, new clutch and low miles. little surface rust starting on bed rails. The 6 speed shifts more like a big truck then my 5 speed. Granny gear is twice as low as on my 5 speed, 1 is a tad low and second is a tad high to start out in, Maybe with 35" tires it would feel better. I just rebuilt mine last year, 2016 bed repainted, etc. and have spent 14 years getting it how I like and it's setup now like I want it. this XL just felt stripped and a little like I was down grading for 20K, If it was a XLT or better I would have brought it home today probably. It was also snowing which hampered my test drive some.

dont buy it. The lower trim level will leave you disappointed for years.

Leave that truck for the "right person" to come buy it.
