97 ford f150 4.6 swap
#2
first off they have the same engine 4.6l, there is no 4.7l (unless you're swapping to a dodge)
it mostly takes lots of time and quite a bit of cussing
1. make sure they're both the same engine (romeo or windsor) if they're not the same you'll run into big problems because of #2
2. you'll have to swap the oil pan, timing cover, valve covers, intake manifold, exhaust manifolds and more. basicly strip them both down to bare blok and heads and swap everything over
it mostly takes lots of time and quite a bit of cussing

I typo'd first message it is 4.6 not 4.7. How can you tell the Windsor to Romeo? The 8th digit of truck is W and believe it is Romeo.

VIN W is Romeo 6 is Windsor.
Should be a bolt in swap for the long block if they are both Romeo. You will want to use the truck intake and whole truck front pulley set up. The cars use 1 or 2 less ribs on the belt so it is best not to mix and match any belt driven accessories.
Take off the power steering pumps and AC compressors before the engines come out. And make sure to bolt them back up before you set the engine in the mounts. I have found this easier.

Just had this done on a 97 4x4. Basically both motors were stripped to bare blocks and all the truck stuff put on the crown vic motor. Runs like a top. Make sure you change the sensor on the top of the block asnd the head, also the heater hose that hooks to the back of the water pump I would change. We did mine because I didn't want to have problems later down the road and have to disassemble the top half of the motor again. Also put a new water pump on it. Basically everything that you would have pulled off and could be replaced we did.

I have always admired those who can strip an engine and rebuild it. I don't have that skill/knowledge.
By the way, someone said "stripping to bare block" I looked up "bare block". It is just the casting. Did he mean it? Or a complete engine minus water pump, AC pump, power steering, alternator, etc?

Stripping to a bare block, sorry should have made myself clearer. We took everything off the motor except the heads, pistons, crank. Everything external off the motor had to come off. From a car to a truck the oilpan, pickup tube, timing cover, valve covers, intake is all different.
While we had that stuff off we replaced everything that we could replace as far as sensors, hoses, gaskets, etc...
