I went back and forth between an 8 inch and a 10 inch drop to finally settle on the 8 inch. This is a picture of the truck with my lowest trailer which formerly sat level with the 2011 truck. It's two inches high on the nose with the 2017. A general rule of thumb is that whatever length of drop you had before, just go to the next size longer and everything will be equal.
I'll be glad to get rid of the 180 ball system and have the Weigh Safe's flat-bottomed hitch. In this picture I have a 6 inch drop hitch but you can see how low an 8 inch drop will be by looking at the ball that is pointed down. If I went with the 10 inch drop it would be 2 inches closer to the ground. That's just too much even for my truck which has 37 inch tires on it.

The 10" is only about 9.5" off the ground when on level ground. I just don't think I'll ever own a trailer with a tongue that low. Plus, I don't want to drag it in off angle transitions. Although, Force74 got the 10" and said no problem with clearance. IDK, I'd likely be fine either way...

What is everyone paying for the 8" drops and is the 180 or weight safe better to go with and why one vs the other? I just priced the weight safe at 314.99 with discount applied for the 3" receiver. I'm a little surprised how much these puppies cost but don't want to be stuck bot having the right hitch when I need it.

So, I spoke with Rick at Trunk Monkey parts today. He was happy the deal worked out for everyone and was appreciative for the orders from our group. I asked him how long the promotional code was good for since it was asked in one of the Weigh Safe hitch threads. He said as long as interest continues, that the code will remain active.

Has anyone added a locking pin to their trucks? Which ones work? I see there is an Anderson one which I am not familiar with. Also has anyone found a set which can use the same key that the Weight Safe uses so that I have one less key to carry?

I'm surprised everyone likes leaving their hitch in when not in use. While I do think the Weigh Safe is probably the best looking hitch out there, it's still a hitch. I like to keep mine off when not in use strictly for esthetic reasons. That said, has anyone come across a basic rubber hitch plug for the 3" receiver yet? I've always run one of these but can't find one in 3".

I went with the 8 inch and if any trailers ride too high I will modify the trailers. It usually only take a couple of hours to raise the coupler and get a good paint job over the new welds. Much better than even worrying about dragging an expensive hitch on the ground in adverse conditions or even worse grinding to a halt.
