The button on the upper glove box wobbles when you touch it. I don't own a Ford at this point. I am considering my options, but this really makes me hesitant. I do have a Silverado HD and the latches and buttons are much more secure. Not trying to start a fight, but lets not blatantly make stuff up.
JBob2,

I'm sorry your feel like the 2017 feels cheap to you. My 17 SD King Ranch feels rock solid, no rattles, no squeaks, our 2012 King Ranch SD with 80K also is the same, rock solid as the day we bought it. I am not blatantly making stuff up I went out to one of our trucks and took pictures. See below. This truck has 150k miles and is in the best condition of our fleet because its the loaner truck and only gets used when one of our guys trucks is in the shop. But yet even on this one both seat latches are broken, glove box handle is broken, dash and steering wheel are wearing away. Is this normal wear tear maybe, but I never had these kinds of problems on any of my fords. These are work trucks and maybe the higher trim levels have better parts but all I can say is for me Fords hold up better. I actually just got this loaner truck back because it was being driven by one of our guys whose truck was in the shop. 159K miles on his truck and I just had to spend $3500 on it. It needed rear brakes and upper and lower joints, which is understandable. But it addition to that it needed both engine mounts, transmission mount, leaking heater core water line, oil leak from oil filter adapter, transmission dipstick seal, 2 knock sensors, and stabilizer link which was broken. This is not stuff that should be breaking at 150k in my opinion.

The GM products in our fleet show sign of wear within 30,000 miles. The chrome on the door handle flakes off creating sharp edges that will cut your hand. Solution, wrap electrical tape around them. Plus, I detest the fact that the driver's seat is not centered behind the steering wheel. One of our farm vehicles is a 2002 Duramax. I do like the drivetrain, but the rest of the vehicle, not so much.

After looking at Ram and GM, I stayed with Ford. Different people feel differently, hence the other two manufacturers. If that is your truck of choice, so be it. Just not mine.

I'm a big ford fan through and through just love them
Back in 2008 my 2008 6.4ltr was giving me lots of problems and funny thing it was not the motor everything was falling apart after only 45,000 kms I had enough and traded it in on a used 2006 Gmc dually. That truck was awesome great pulling power comfortable quite just a great truck then the 2011 super dutys came out and I had to have one. In 2010 I bought a Gmc 1500 awd cargo van for work it's now 7 yrs old and we have had not a single problem with it so far only one side door handle and it was our fault. We run 3 vans at a time and run them in the ground just replaced a 1999 e-350 v-10 with 625,000 kms with a 2015 ford transit I think my Gmc will be just as good as our 1999 e-350

Those dash cracks pictured above and the finish on the steering wheel trim flaking off are things I've seen on many GM trucks including tahoes and suburbans with less than 100k on them. I can't recall seeing any other used vehicles with less than eighty thousand on it where the radio and AC buttons were worn down to the white plastic. A friend of mine bought his wife a Tahoe last year, 2012 model, with less than 60k on it and it had two cracks similar to that in the dash.....he had the dealer replace it as part of the deal.

I've owned GM trucks in recent years, and am not going back. While the ride quality of their HD trucks with the IFS may be more appealing to the general public over a solid front axle truck, the interior fit and finish of their full size trucks and SUVs is substantially sub par compared to Ford and current offerings from Ram. A Duramax engine and Alison tranny, to me personally, doesn't make up for those sorts of things. But, that's just me.

I bought my SD after having a 14 silverado which is the same interior as the 17 silverado as far as I can tell.

I will say so far the SD does not rattle like my 14 silverado. I went through way too much loctite and tape foam on that truck chasing loose dash screws and panels. I do think the cloth seats were a better quality and more comfortable than the SD. The dash buttons are in better locations on the SD and many other creature comforts on the SD compared to the silverado, not to mention monthly recall notices on the silverado. I was a die hard chevy fan with multi generations working for gm and only owning gm. I'm the first to own a non gm vehicle and so far the quality is much better. Even my dad who worked for gm for 35 years said my 2017 xlt is nicer than my brothers 2016 silverado High Country. Engine/transmission wise, the duramax/allison has a pretty solid track record but you guys are spot on with everything else on the truck.

And my Barrett M82A1 will . . . the Duramax seems to be a very solid platform, I can't say anything bad about Allison transmissions. My HEMTT has an upgraded 5 speed one and it always shifts with authority and being in a 40,000 lb truck, you still feel the truck lurch during shifts. The rest of the GM truck just doesn't do it for me but I want them to succeed because Ford needs the competition to further improve.

Towing and heavy hauling is where they separate.

Being the fastest is fine, but controlling the load is where it is at.

Ford does the job better imho.

GM's have always seemed to have rather abrupt throttle tip-in to me. Ford's is just much smoother and more linear.

No, mainly because (in a launch video I watched), the GM spokesperson stated that the capacity stayed the same because they wanted to keep this truck within this class related to consumer demand drastically dropping past 22.5k lbs capacity. Furthermore, in 2018 they will be releasing a higher capacity towing vehicle to compete with the >23k lbs class. Only ~3% of drivers who own 3500 class vehicles or above ever claim to pull greater than 22.5k lbs. Here is the link. Fast forward to 16:35.
