seemed to average about 3/4" of rain per storm lately, usually closer to 1". weeds are startin to fill in. reckon i better go buy a new battery for the lawn tractor, this string of sunshine coming is bound to make the weeds kick into double overdrive!

I'm from a small town of ~100 in South Dakota, right in the middle of the best pheasant hunting. There were 26 students in my graduating class in '69.

I was born in Long Beach, but grew up in Whittier. However, the map said Sante Fe Springs, but our mailing address was Whittier, but if we needed Police, the Norwalk Sheriff responded. Go figure. Lived on Leffingwell Rd from the time I was 5 until I joined the Air Force at 18. Last time I was there, several years ago now, I hardly recognized the area.

Wally World gauges are better than a tin can, which is what I used for years.
Only last year did I get my "good one".
It's wedge shaped, so lower rainfall amounts are shown on an amplified scale for easier reading.
You're right about properly locating it away from anything that might influence it.

They're always different due to the influence of the nearby 60' tree. I also have one in the backyard, but teeth marks make it a challenge to read. (Golden doodle).

Missed the G2G today because of work...oh well.
here's a few shots on what i was doing. Guess the feed for a building burned up underground, so we were hired by another electrical contractor to pull in 4 new 4/0awg wire in a spare conduit. The run was 200'. One thing that sucked was the vaults were full of water. Which may have caused the wires to burn up in the first place.
4/0 copper wire, stuffs big n heavy!
Me standing in one of the vaults looking at empty spools.
New wire in the spare conduit, the upper top right conduit is the one with the shorted wires, we were told to cut off and abandonin place the dead wire.
The winch part of our puller, there is a whole frame work that attaches to the winch and conduit that is not pictured. The winch is rated for 4k lbs, but the gauge on the motor shows the red zone at 10k lbs. The "sock" is at the bottom of the picture, basically a Chinese finger trap, we use that to grip the wire and attach to out pulling rope.
Shot of one of the flooded vault's. You can see the wire coming out of the top left conduit and the gray plastic sleaves we used last week to temporarily insulate the other burnt wires so that the building could have temp power for the week. Likely cause of the failure was nicked insulation and the repeated flooding of the vault caused a short.

Thx for the pics Justin, how does one nick the wire - previous installer? Rodents? Mfg defect? Looks expensive per foot.
#59
rodents do chew insulation but usually that's in homes with romex wire in the attic or crawl spaces.
and sometimes it can be installers error, not protecting the wire against a sharp edge, physical dammage while on the spool, or a sharp burr in a metal conduit that was not reamed smooth durring installation then wire drug across it.
