Hi,
I'm new here, been searching forums for years, but can't find an answer to this one.
I'm replacing the 2 quick connect fittings, their orings, and the oring on the rear plug to fix a leak at the threaded side of 1 of those fittings, on vehicle. I've gotten the 2 fitting ports spotless and ready for reassembly, but the rear plug hole is still slowly trickling oil after 4 hours. Removed set screw from top of hpop, it's still full of oil.
Was the hpop reservoir supposed to empty when I pulled the plug?
Should I vacuum the oil out from the top?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Pulling oil out of the reservoir won't hurt, but it's still going to take a long time. The fastest way is to pull the HPOP and point it to drain out the hole faster. Otherwise just play the waiting game.
Thanks,
I'll try to pull oil tomorrow. Doesn't help that truck has a slight incline to the front as its parked. I only removed 3 wire connections to get this far, and my inexperience would create more problems removing hpop. If I'm lucky, after sitting for 12 hours the trickle will have stopped.
Wasn't sure if the hpop reservoir was supposed to empty or not. Prolonged use without regular oil changes is a concern of mine.
Should have mentioned earlier it's a 99 f250 sd 7.3 psd crew cab with 220k. No mods. Owned for 7 years w no major repairs. Replaced ball joints when I got it, and power steering to brake booster line blew 2 weeks ago.
Left it sitting for 14 hours, during which the hpop reservoir did empty, and the trickle of oil from rear plug stopped. Cleaned the threads, put on new orings and loctite, and torqued to 25 ft lbs. Put a quart of oil into the hpop reservoir and left it sit overnight for the loctite to cure. It took about 60 secs of cranking to get it started. Was expecting some sputtering from air, but it idled normally, and no more oil leak.
If I ever have to do it again, hope not, I'll empty hpop reservoir from top before I pull plug to save time.
Good to hear things went well, I have new HPOP lines and fittings for the pump and the head in the garage waiting to go on. I will drain the HPOP reservoir first before removing anything else.
