Used 2008 6.4L powerstroke
Not sure if Im doing this right as I am new to this. I having been doing research on the 6.4 and I have found one that appears to be a good deal but I'm not counting my chickens yet. Just want to know if this is a good deal/truck or should I run. I have not checked it out yet but I plan on getting a oasis report. Please check out the link below of the truck and let me know what you all think.

put on your best running shoes and book in the oppisite direction.
it seems like 9 out of 10 6.4's with problems are 2008's.....so I would definitely stay away from that year.
252K miles is a lot of the the international engine used in that truck and the emmissions systems makes those hot and hard mikes
just google 6.4l problems and yes...those problems are real.

Someone else. I'm a little crazy but not that crazy lol. I was really waiting to hear back from the guys on here first before I bought anything to play it smart. Now I am looking at a 2005 6.0 with like 95k private owner for 19000 obo. But I'm in between on the 6.0 and 6.4. I have read a lot of both good and bad on the both

I think a lot has to do with how many miles you plan to put on them. The 6.0 problems are all known. I traded a 6.0 for a 6.4 because I wanted newer features and a F450. I don't put many miles per year on a truck since it isn't my daily driver.
The 6.0 does have a horrible reputation in the public though, so that helps on your buying price. I had zero bites on mine at less than KBB, so I traded it instead of selling it. If you can get a '06 or '07, I think you'll be better off.
In my area, trucks newer than '07 are exempt from smog tests too. Otherwise, you have to deal with the DPF issue on the 6.4 which will eventually clog or sensors will go bad.
There are a lot of 6.0s out there, so if you are patient, you can probably get a great price.

'05 should be ok. The '03-'04s had the most issues. I had my '06 for 8 1/2 years. The biggest problem I had was rusting turbo additive will stop that issue and driving it. I only had 45K on it. Really slowed down the miles when it was no longer my daily driver.
You might try posting your own Craigslist ad, and look in out of the way places. Like I said, there are a lot of them around and I expect many people have given up on selling them. OR/WA are good places to buy due to low amount of rust on them if you can go that far.

EGR and DPF deletes are the best modifications to do. Don't expect any mileage gains, but if you do gain some in mileage, great. The 6.4's are not known for getting great mileage. Though I haven't done it, a FASS (Fuel Air Separating System) in your fuel line would be a good mod. Any kind of fuel system failure is going to cost you major bucks depending on who does the repair.
