Got 12 mpg pulling 40 1/2' 5th wheel

Pulled her home night before last 70 miles on I10 doing 65 mph. Fuel economy gage 12.7 mpg, trip gage 11.7, so I figured 12 mpg. It was empty except for 50 gal of water and 60 lb propane. Truck only has 1800 miles on it. It may do better after more miles on ithe. IDK. If I could get 12 mpg loaded I'don't be a happy camper.

Thanks for the report. The fuel economy and trip gauges should be identical if you reset them at the same time. Was this flat land or hilly?

I set them both at the same time when I fueled before getting on the Interstate. Was far as flat, yeah pretty much. There are a few small hills, but mostly flat

I've found that weight is less important than wind. Headwind and I'm getting 8-9. Tail wind and I'm getting 12 plus. Could you tell what the air was doing? The front cap on your trailer has an aggressive slope to it which probably helps.

Agreed. My 2015 Heartland 5er has a much more flat front than my old 2010 Montana. Got much better fuel mileage with the Montana.

Where to where.

I traded in my Jayco Eagle HT RKDS so pulled it to Waco, swapped and came back the next day. 13.8 going up, but the Jayco is light at 9k loaded (which it was and the Cedar Creek will come in about 11250+ and that turned into 12.5. That said, no rust up to Waco and rolled at 65 mph avg, but coming home I rolled at 74 mph avg.

I just picked up a new Cedar Creek Silverback 29RE up in Waco at Fun Town and came down I 35 to SA, around N and up I 10 to exit 533. Then today I ran into SA and back on I 10 I saw a Solitude rollin...

Yeah, not much wind at all, so that helped.

I love your shed there, Don

Edited to add: I just saw your "where to where" question. It wasn't me. I drove from the west side of Mobile to the other side of Pensacola to Milton.

Just in case you are thinking about one.

Original 28 x 52
Add on 28 x 24
Thinking 28 x 24

So if you are thinking 28 x 52, what in the hell will I do with all that space. Got to look to see if I can add on another 28 x 24, I really ned the space %UYI&^*&^$E...WTH

3 car garage and we're still addin on and Luckenbach is barely 20 min from my place.

Can't wait to tow the 53ft brick on wheels around with this rig, so far power delivery seems nice and shifting is smarter unloaded so hopefully it helps a little on long trips, usually do 4000-8000km a week so we should know pretty quick!

Well, I get 8 mpg now while towing. If we split with you and get 10, it's gonna be great! We have a 50 gal Transferflow tank in the bed of our 2009 now. No plans to put one in the 2017 we have on order. Will miss the range, but not spilling diesel in the bed of the truck. Thanks for posting! David
