1000+ HP from Junkyard 351w.. Pretty Cool!
Just thought this was pretty interesting. I would have never guessed that a stock lower end with 2 bolt mains would take this much abuse! ... Also, on this engine with the boost set to only 7 psi on the turbo, they were able to get up over 600 HP! ... The motor finally gave up when the boost was up to 21 psi or so... Good read though! The Windsors are strong, and the 351M has impressed me before as well. There used to be a guy locally that had a 78-79 Bronco with an M in it that mud raced. It was his daily driver it was all rusted out and leaked fluids everywhere but ran good. He ran hot stock since he had headers and an aftermarket intake and Holley. And also hot modified because of the nitrous he would run on it for that class.
I talked to him a few times and he said the only "real mods" were the intake, nitrous and Rv cam. The heads he claimed were ported by pulling the valves and sucking sand from his kids sand box through the ports with a shop vac.
It ran well in stock class he would usually finish top three unless someone from out of town would show up with a ringer.
But man did that thing run on the bottle in hot modified. There is no sound like 250 horses just showing up at the push of a button. First or second always, and if he took a loss on the first round of double elimination he'd have the hood up swapping jets for the second round and be flying out of the end of the pit on the second pass.
I remember on year he said he thought he hurt it because it started running 7psi of oil pressure at idle and 10psi at 1500rpm. But he drove it for two more years like that lol

Short of the newer 5.0 blocks that just about everyone knows are HP limited, most engines can make big numbers. Especially on boost as it doesn't shock load like the Bottle does. And junkyard engines are good for the fact the rings are seated and have a decent gap if they are over 80,000 miles. As long as you keep the detonation away and done miss a shift or blow the spark out and unload a cylinder they can handle more than the average person would think.
