washer pump and nozzle upgrade

I need to get my windshield washing system up to snuff. I like the 80's and 90's catch/washer pump combo but, I already have a catch tank. I could ditch that but, there is a second battery in the location where it would normally mount.

The stock nozzles aren't the best. Do they spay in a fan pattern when operating normally? Because mine sure don't. Really don't do much at all.

What's a good pump and nozzle upgrade?

My '77's washers just shoot a stream up into the center of the swipe area that hits from about 1/3 way up to near top and gravity pulls some back down. There is no "fan" pattern to them. The wiper blades do the spreading.

Dorman has a kit with different nozzles but they mostly mount hood side for newer stuff.

I have OEM tank with a replacement pump and new hoses. I did modify later WW arms from a late '80s-'90s PU to use new style easily sourced on the road blades.

The pump you have is the same one used up to 1996. As far as the nozzles, that's the way they work. They squirt a stream onto the windshield and the wipers move it around.

that's what I thought. I've soaked them overnight and got a fair amount of junk/calcium out of there. Probably should get some new lines and go from there.

When its windy, its a 50/50 shot if its gonna even make it to the windshield.

Thinking outside the box.... a pump and multiple squirters pirated from 2001 and newer F-trucks. Gonna have to drill the hood and install them though.

LMC Truck has replacement nozzles. They also have a universal hood mounted nozzle kit.

Make sure when you are working on w/s wiper things that the hard plastic T on the dvrs side behind the power brake booster (that connects the 2 rubber lines) does not get broken....

X2 on they spray a stream and not a fan.

I'd use a 12vdc pond pump for massive volume, not pressure.

I just ordered everything from LMC from the tank to the nozzles and put it on my 79 F150. It just sprays in one stream and the wiper spreads it around. Not the best but it beats what I had before which was nothing.

Pretty much the same experience - had no washers, replaced the washer motor with one from the local auto parts store (no need to order, in stock and I seem to recall $15) - worked like a champ when I jumpered to it but I could not get juice to it. Wound up discovering that some PO had replaced my WW switch with an incorrect model missing the 'washer' function. Bought a new correct switch, so I have both washers and interval wipers - life is good.

Where does one find an interval switch? I'm tired of my two speed (hurricane and typhoon speed) switch. Wipers squeeking against the windshield is just as annoying as having to reach forward and mist wipe every five or ten seconds.

My washer nozzles were "upgraded" by cleaning with a fine wire to remove dried out deposits. After this and a little aiming, the originals worked fine. May be worth a try.

Also consider soaking the nozzles in CLR (Calcium & Lime Remover).

Two different types of windshield wipers, two different wiper switches.
Two speed wiper switches have a low & high speed.
Intermittent (delay) wipers were optional on 1973/79 F100/350's and 1978/79 Bronco's. Intermittent is not another name for low speed!

You will probably need to locate the box also. And the red plug adapter wiring harness. Ck out 80's/90's(?) ish Ford trucks also. That might call for a bit of re wire of the box??
