What I have heard is that all candian trucks had this upper trim to set them apart from the US trucks. In the US it must have been an option.

Mine was built in St. Paul, MN, probably 10 miles from my house. I had custom-ordered it and the salesman called me to tell me when it was being built. I could have gone down and watched it on the assembly line! I really wish I would have, but I was going to college at the time and as I recall I had a big test that day and didn't feel like I could skip school.

I'm pretty sure that it was built on a Friday. It might have been a Monday, but I do specifically remember that it was built on one of those "bad" days. It was a pretty good truck though. Quite a few leaks that needed to be fixed under warrantee, but nothing major.

Back to the trim... I had rust repaired on the truck in about '92. I think they needed to replace the trim then. I do know that it still had the high line after that (but it's possible that the body shop reused the original trim too).

I sold that truck in '98, with 182K miles. It had stranded me twice at that point (ignition module once, blown out steel brake line the second time). I had 2 kids by then and needed a back seat, so I replaced it with a '95 F-150 SCSB. The F-250 had a lot of rust by then, and the paint looked like crap. It was my favorite truck, but I'm not sorry I sold it. I've had too many other toys since to even think I could have kept it. And the '95 was my second favorite (it would have been #1 if it had a manual trans).

Since you custom ordered the truck, do you have any idea what those hubcaps are called? I have never seen any on a 4x4 truck before and they look great! Any idea on the tires too?

Maybe "custom ordered" isn't quite the right term. I only meant that I hadn't bought it off the lot. I just went down the standard order sheet and checked off what I wanted.

As to the hub caps, I don't know what they were officially called. I dug out the old vehicle purchase contract from when I ordered it (yeah, I'm a bit of a hoarder). The only appearance-related option I checked off was the "Explorer A" package, which included the XL trim, Explorer 2 tone paint, a chrome grill and sliding rear window. The hub caps might have been included n the XL package.

Not official, but I have heard them called "dog dish" hub caps.

And for what it's worth, I didn't like them much. They tended to get loose and then rattle or squeak. I eventually had one fall off, and even though I did recover it, I just took all 4 off for the rest of the time I owned the truck (i stuck them back on when I sold it).

The tires I do know. They were BFG Mud-Terrains, 255/85R-16.

At about 50K miles I replaced them with 235/85R-16 BFG ATs (I don't think BFG had the 255 size any more and I decided to go for a less aggressive tire for better traction on packed snow or ice. 50K miles later I put another set of the same ATs on it. And then 50K miles later I went back to the Mud-Terrains (in 235/85R-16) for better traction on snowy or muddy forest roads since I was doing a lot of grouse hunting by then.

Obviously I liked the tires! And those were both the original BFG MTs, not the "KM" or "KM2" versions.

If you have any original Ford type documents from where you ordered the truck, the guys on here would probably enjoy looking at something like that. Put some white paper over any personal info and scan it in.

Wow thats a good memory! I am trying to decide on some tires for my truck. Exact same thing as yours but I have cooper discoverer A/Ts in 235/85r16. They are pretty small. I was thinking 255/85r26 or 265s but yours look great! Big and aggressive but still a skinny tire for mpg/snow driving.

I suspect that's a tie-down spot for a camper. I'll tell you after I pick it up Thursday.

Hmm mine had a camper but no tie downs...

EDIT: Now I recall seeing 2 holes on each side the box right where these would be. Since they are on both sides I thought it might be factory but maybe not. Found a pic of a camper on one just like mine Name: photo491.jpg

Ford didn't offer camper tie downs for 1980/89's, only for 1973/76 F250/350...and this type isn't it.

This type of tie down was probably installed by an RV dealer.

Good to know! The junkyard f350 has a 5th wheel too. Definitely a worked truck. It was all custom too. Visor, fancy interior, custom grille and such. Now its got some of its fancy interior and custom grille

Nothing official Ford unfortunately. I kept a copy of the sales brochure for a long time bit lost it at some point. It had a picture of the silver metallic / dark charcoal metallic paint scheme that I really liked, so that's what I ordered.

But I do have a few things from the dealerships I worked with. The first is an "offer to purchase" from Tousley Ford. Basically a scribble-sheet with all of the options listed.

The second is a vehicle purchase contract from Brookdale Ford (which is where I bought it). Lots of bad handwriting (the worst of it wasn't mine).

Finally is the actual invoice when I took delivery.

If only I could remember when my wife asks me to pick something up from the store on the way home! The 255/85-16 isn't much bigger than a 235, a little over an inch in height and 3/4" wider. I really liked them, but I don't mind the 235s either.

Definitely anchor points for camper tie-downs. I've had them on the last 4 of my 5 trucks. And although you can't see the anchor point on the pic of the brown truck above, you can see the tie-down (turnbuckle) angling down from lust under the access door on the camper to behind the leg (which is blocking the view of the anchor point.

Radio was $400. About as much as the trailer/tow package.

I also get a kick out of seeing things like an extra $12.70 for reduced sound insulation and $17.20 for dual horns. Would have hated to up the base price by making things like that standard!
