Heat got cold temp gauge showed cold then overheated
Hello folks, got a question? Was driving my truck I have a 97 f150 4x4 4.6L, btw. The heater started blowing cold air and I looked at the temp gauge but it was showing lower than it normally does and then, after a couple of miles or so I looked at the temp gauge again. By this time I was in my driveway. And it was overheating it might have been that way before I looked at the temp gauge again. But any way I opened the hood didn't see any leaks, all my hoses were hot except the top heater hose. Also checked the oil it was full and coolant was too, any idea what this could be? Sounds like a t-stat to me? But could be worse. Any help is appreciated also forgot to mention that the oil had no signs of water in there nor the expansion tank cap !

normally when the heater blows cold you have an air pocket in the coolant system and find the tank in low on fluid. If you have done no work on the coolant system recently and the tank appears to still be full, then you might have had the thermostat stick. If the thermostat is stuck part way open, you will get a slow heating up cycle, then under operation, you might have restricted flow and overheat.

Ok thanks I did forget to say that I did do a flush and refill back in I think it was in September or maybe August if it had air in there it took awhile to show up lol! But any way i guess I will go ahead and replace the t-stat and burp the system again and see what happens? I just wish it wasn't in the 30's here lol! But any other ideas are appreciated! Thanks folks!
