I called Diesel Tech in San Jacinto to ask about getting a professional second opinion. When he heard my compression numbers he said couldn't in good conscience charge me to diagnose with such low numbers. Seems like a good shop.

I took advantage of Harbor Freight New Years sales to pick up an engine crane, trans jack and engine stand. The stand I have won't hold the 7.3 Got all 3 for around $300.

Made good start on the removal yesterday. Have an AC guy coming on Saturday to evacuate the system.

Do you have to dump the A/C system? Is it impossible to pull the condenser and the pump to the side and out of the way?

Not impossible but they do tend to get in the way...Easier to remove and replace the receiver/dryer and orifice tube than deal with the hassle.

Good luck finding a machine shop that will do that kind of engine work in a timely manner.....By timely I mean within a year!
