checking everything in regards to putting that new cam in has everything to do with "building a fresh new motor" you make your own luck in engine building. If it's done right then you wont be second guessing everything.

Probably 250ish hp 450 tq. The carb is a little small, but it'll be fine. It should be nice and crisp down low, but may start to run out as you get over 4000.

I have been digging deeper. Cant find any real info other than word of mouth. In another forum, A guy said in his ford tech book the 83-87 460 made 220hp and 360tq. A little dossapointing, considering I thought they made 230hp and 390tq. The latter numbers are for efi but then again i have seen the efi's having 245hp and 400tq. I don't think we will ever get a straight answer. I do remember reading somewhere though that the cam was straight up in 87 because I read that the 73-86 had that and I was thinking damn, one more year and I would have been good...
Cant see any power differences from 86-87. Personally, I think the 220hp and 360tq are from the mid 70s. Numbers there some people even say 200hp. Either way, you have at least 200hp and 360tq
