2011 F350 Diesel

Built 6-11. Sons 2011, 80
,000 miles just started to have hard, clunking, shifts on cold mornings. Goes away when temps warm up. Fluid up to line. I've researched the transmission problems with the 2011 but cant find the right TSB or any TSB. Any suggestions? Thanks Terry

Have the fluid and filter been changed at the recommended 60K interval? If not, change all 18-19 qts (full flush) and the filter. See if this improves the cold up-shift. Use Mercon LV and nothing else! Clean fresh fluid and new filter every 60K will get you 200-250K or more out of a 6R140. Ignore it and it will be much less.
Take it to a shop that can read the trans pending and present trouble codes. The other sure fire way to gauge a transmissions health is to have its pressures read by a reputable trans shop.

Thanks for the response. Fluid change is needed. I've done this on my 7.3 a couple of times. Is there some instructions posted for this trans? T

Pull the pan replace the filter. Clean the magnet and the pan. The gasket is reusable just take care in removal as its constructed of a metal insert over-molded with rubber so dont bend, kink or rip it. Assemble and fill it with 9ish quarts of LV. Road test for about 20 miles. Drive is back into garage and pull the plug and drain out the pan contents (w/o removing the pan). Refill and thats it. See what that does. Drain the pan again in 6 months and refill. This is the approach Id take. From there service the trans every 30-50K with same procedure. Shorter intervals if you heavy tow.

Sorry for delayed response...life got in the way of my blogging.

Please close the loop here as to what you did to resolve the problem.

I'll try the fluid drain. If kept in the garage all is well. Thanks Terry

You need a heated flush machine to properly service the transmission.

The dealer is the only place I would use.

Ford will also update the software if required.

if thats not the fix than it sounds like you need your transmission reflashed and change out the solenoids. My truck did the same thing around 32K. Took it to the dealer and they fixed it under warranty. Good luck OP.
