1981 F-250 Tailgate Handle

Howdy All!
Started out replacing worn tailgate cables and broke some stuff. Ended up taking out the handle to loosen up the parts. Got the original one working well, but noticed some differences in mine vs. the DORMAN 77050 replacement. I'm really not sure what to call the parts, so I have pictures!

The RED arrow on the DORMAN 77050 shows the little "tab" bent with a little "bolt" to catch the latch when you open the handle. Mine is "straight" and does not have the "bolt." Should I modify mine to match the DORMAN?

The BLUE arrow shows the part of the latch that catches the "bolt." Mine is SLIGHTLY bent. Should I straighten it?

Currently, mine seems to work, but is missing that extra part. Any thoughts? Do I need to add more pictures/details?

Thanks again,
Russ

Dave, I'm going to try that first. Ordered the rest of what I needed. Hopefully have it by Friday.

Thanks!
