2001 Ford F350 XLT 6.8 Liter SuperCab

Greetings fellow enthusiasts.

I don't intend to take too much of your time, but I hoped to run passed you some basic details about my truck, what I've done to it over the nearly 2 years I've owned it, and ask if there is any recommendations on potential issues I might need to be on the lookout for going forward.

This is my second truck, my first being a 96 F-150 XLT that died at 218K miles. Toying with the option of rebuilding the engine or buying something else, I opted for this rig of a Super Duty after test driving an 06 Excursion and an 06 Silverado. Seemed like the better option of the three

The truck spent most of it's life in Arizona, but now resides in Wisconsin (salted roads in winter, yay). It has nearly 155,000 miles on the 6.8L V10 engine. I've used nothing but synthetic oil since I've owned it, but I've recently moved closer to family and most of its time is spent driving in the city now which I wager is shortening it's lifespan.

It has a 4+ inch lift on it (previous owner, the guy who sold it to me said it's 4 inches, but I believe it's more), 36" Kenda tires, and I am told the previous owner "beefed up the suspension" without any real specifics.

I've had all of the spark plug inserts replaced with helicoil inserts as the truck spit a few plugs on me and I decided to solve the issue properly. One exception is #10, which the previous owner decided to redrill directly into the head instead of going the route I took. I've also had the exhaust manifolds both entirely rebolted on with new bolts, giving that mine were still in okay shape, but I figured I'd like to have it done up good and proper before it became an issue. Today I just had the underside of the vehicle coated with a corrosion resistant undercoating (Wisconsin winters) and finished installing a backup camera (big city, tighter spaces to park in).

That is really the short and sweet story of my truck. Giving it's history in the southern states and the generally great condition it is in for its age, I feel the need to be exceptionally thorough with its care and maintenance, so I was just hoping you guys might have some more tips, tricks, and advice for me going forward. Anything I should be looking out for as I approach the higher 100,000 miles mark? Any potential costly gotchas I can avoid with some pre-emptive maintenance and inspections?

Thanks a bunch, I really appreciate it

Edit: Forgot to add that it's an automatic.

I say just keep doing what your doing. My dad had 350,000 miles on his V-10 / auto combo. He never had anything big happen at all. Heck never replaced joints and pulled a trailer practically everyday. Great truck. Just stay regular with the fluids is a big deal to me. Do that and I think you are set for a long time.

Thanks for putting my mind a bit at ease I am surprised to hear he didn't have any issues with spark plugs ejecting, perhaps his was a little newer than mine? Either way, 350K is impressive. I look forward to driving mine to 350K.

I am almost at 200k.
Only things I have had to replace since I bought it , are a/c compressor , front drive shaft , fuel pump ,and rear axle seal on one side .
I tow 12-18k pounds weekly.

I am very happy with this truck , have owned it 3 years now and put 60k miles on it .

Thanks, I definitely was looking for more potential issues to keep an eye on. Though mine doesn't work nearly as hard or as often as yours, its still good to know where to keep an eye on things.

Thank you.
