The stock bottom end of this motor is fine into the 500hp area so you are in no danger of hurting it. This stock cam will produce great street manners... very good throttle response and with those heads very stout power, the only thing a different cam has to offer is more of a classic carb attitude which is that "noticable idle" that everybody seems to want.

beg to differ here. I too thought so til I talked with a few locals that have run across a few with cracked webbing in stock applications. Check what you have before going farther.

Yeah I have seen that.. cracks around the cam journals. From all reports these cracks don't seem to have any impact on oil pressure so it doesn't seem to be much of a concern for stock applications but for a buildup I'd agree you want a solid block to start with.

Would head studs be recommended or would bolts be fine? I know studs are always preferred but I didn't know if it might just be overkill in my situation.

You definately do not need studs. New bolts wouldn't be a bad idea, especially if someone at Ford snuck in a set of torque to yield head bolts in there. TTY'S have a fully threaded shank.

Finally got some time for this. Do I need new pushrods for roller rockets or will the old do fine?

You shouldn't need new pushrods if you go with Crane's 1.7 Pedestal rockers. But, you might want to check the rocker ends of the old pushrods for wear, those ends tend to wear to a wedge shape over time due to the fact that they do not rotate in service the way those run on a flat tappet cam do. If that motor's got lots of miles on it, it may not be a bad idea to install new ones.

Motor supposedly had 57k on it. The pushrods didn't seem to be worn. I was going to go with the comp ultra pro magnum roller rockers. Rhs sells them off their website where I will be buying the heads from.

Well in going with aftermarket heads and rockers, you will need to check the valve train geometry once you have it assembled to see if you need different pushrods

The Crane pedestal rockers have the advantage of being bolt on parts that don't need any fiddling to work, as they were stock parts on the Cobra Mustang engines.

The "Ultra Pro Magnum" rockers will need to have the heads machined for studs for a start. But hey, they've got the cool words "Magnum", "Pro", and "Ultra", so they must be good.
They'd be even better if they had "Patriot" in the name as well.
Let's see: "Ultra Pro Patriot Magnum". That'd sell well!

I did not know aftermarket heads would have to be machined. I figured they would bolt on since RHS only sells the comp roller rockers and these seem to be on the lower end of what they sell. But hey that's why I'm on this website to learn what I don't know so thanks.

It matters on whether they are stud mount heads or not. You've selected stud mount rockers. They probably are stud mount heads. Just check the description.

Sorry, I was thinking of stock type heads. My last post is moot.
