Engine Number Decode
Hi There,
I'm new to the forum after recently purchasing 1965 F100. I'm trying to figure out the engine type and capacity for the purpose if spare parts.
The seller informed me it was a Cleveland but didn't know the engine capacity ?
The Engine numbers:
A062MK87315S
It also has stamping on the back of the block near oil pressure switch/bell housing (top) - DIF 613 T ?

About the easiest way to tell if you have a 351M or a 400 is to remove #1 spark plug bring the engine to top dead center, stick a small wooden dowel in the plug hole until it touches the piston and mark it. Then turn the engine 180 degrees and repeat the marking. That will give you the stroke, 3.5 inches= 351M, 4 inches= 400.

For what it's worth, the engines that came from the factory in 1965 F100s were two I - 6s of 240 and 300 cubic inch sizes and one V8 - a 352 cubic inch FE engine with 2 bbl carb and single exhaust. I believe the D1 part of the casting number on your engine block indicates it was cast in 1971. D = 1970s decade and 1 the year.

Thanks so much for the advice, you certainly have extensive knowledge of these vehicle !
As mentioned I purchased the car as unfinished project, the workman ship is quite bad. I'm close on deciding if to tear down and re-start the project from beginning. Almost every aspect of the car has been shoddy work.
Anyway, tomorrow I will check the bore stroke and let you know the outcome. My gut feel the engine is 351 ? Its been converted to LPG gas also (not well and no installers certification).
I'm really keen to see internal pic of your truck if you don't mind ?

There was a Detroit Iron Foundry - but it didn't do engines for Ford - and it is dismantled.
The Dearborn Iron Foundry is still in production mode.
Sort of interesting reading.

River Rouge
I have this book published in 1953 by Ford. It was in a pile of free books that the local library was letting go. My wife saw it an grabbed it for me. One thing it said about the Rouge that made me read it twice and say WHAT! Was that they wore out 7000 mops a month keeping the place clean. I haven't worn out even one in this place in the last 17 years.
