82-86 Grill Oval Emblem

So I was strolling through WalCity* today filling the wife's shopping list, and of course it is mandatory that one must visit both the automotive section as well as the toy section (Hot Wheels). While in what i call the phoofy isle of the auto section (steering wheel covers, stickers, etc.) i looked to the bottom shelves and they had a sale on Ford license plates. Chrome with what i'm assuming is a glued on emblem. $15.97....Hmmm. Looked pretty close in size to the grill emblem on Blue Ox that needs replacing. I thought about what all of the parts houses want for a replacement & shipping.......I took the bait.
When i bought my truck, the emblem overlay was all cracked up and loose so i pulled it off but saved it.
When i got home, i placed the overlay over the emblem on the plate. Not perfect but....so close that unless someone pulls out a magnifying glass to inspect the grill, it works.
I haven't taken the emblem off of the plate yet but i'm thinking heat from the back with a little kid-glove prodding will remove it without damage. I do realize that the script font is off but, it will do for now. Package states that it is a licensed product...who knows.

I found that ford kept using the oval emblem that fits the 82-86 grille well into the 2000's (maybe even today). Last auto wrecker trip I grabbed a handful of really nice ovals from some recent wrecks (maybe explorer or ranger??) and they bolt right on our grilles. Paid a couple bucks. If I recall the part number was the same or very similar. The caveat is that there are a number of different size ovals and without an original to compare it is easy to get the wrong one.

Maybe not perfect but acceptable . I'm looking at different possibilities for a lighted grill emblem. Not bright but a glow. Most of the aftermarket lighted emblems are either the wrong color or too bright. I've looked at hitch receiver plug-ins also (tearing them apart and re-configuring them). I'll figure it out. I'm looking for a faint cool blue glow effect. When i get into the plate to remove the emblem, i'll post pics.

The oval emblem in the grill of my 84, came from the grill of a late 80's van.

The very reason why I retained the original for comparison.

brad1979...I'm not willing to pay dealer prices or JY $ plus shipping. It may be all well and good where you hail from but from where I sit....no dice.

I guess you need a wrecker nearby to get parts from for it to work on the cheap, I wouldn't pay shipping either, especially to Canada. The one I didn't install has the number (maybe engineering number and not parts number) F81B-8B262-AA. Not sure if all the ones I grabbed are the same number as I have installed them already. Obviously not an '80's part number so I was wrong there.

MSRP: $37.73 / autonationfordwhitebearlake.com price: $24.90.

1982/89 F100/350 & Bronco / 1983/89 Econoline.

This is a 1987 Bronco part number, it was also used on F100/350 & Bronco tailgate finish panels.

The post was in no way intended as a OEM replacement for the original emblem. It was simply a suggestion as a replacement.
