Ugh. Finally crawled underneath to see where that exhaust smell was coming from, and yep, it's the y-pipe. Any thoughts on a new one? I'm seeing MBRP, BD-Power, and Ford (leaving Dorman out because, well, it's Dorman). I already replaced the passenger side pipe a year or so ago. I am so not looking forward to this. Thank God for a friend with a lift though. This is on an early 04. I'm going to replace the ICP, IPR, and clean the turbo while I'm in there to try to fix my surge problem.
call Julie tomorrow and she can give you all the details on shipping and cores. The y pipe itself is 250. But you might need the late model heat shield,, and it needs "massaged", so it clears the vibrant joints. I have an engine set up just for the heat shield bending. There's 7 total mounting locations that we bolt up on the heat shield as we bend it,, this is so it still lines up with mounting cab on. Trying to bend it without it being mounted fully can make it hard to install. The heat shield is about $30. Then the hardware we use is ford only. We have been shipping them out with all the hardware needed to install (in ford packaging),, but that hardware is extra. We are very familiar with EVERYTHING needed to do that job. If Julie doesn't answer,, u gotta leave a message. She will call you back.
Heat management and to help the bigger turbo spool. I also welded a bunk for my pyro where the y-pipe comes together rather than dealing with the intake manifold (against most advice). I had read that the gas will cool 200F for every 12" of pipe travelled so I wanted to minimize the temp difference as much as possible. So, several reasons really. The vans run hot.
Using a heat gun to measure temp at the manifold it would appear that the delta was ~50F at the probe. Not sure which makes the most difference: wrapping or ceramic coating but I went for both. The wifey toast-a-meter as measured outside the dog haus in the passenger seat also supports the mod.
