1997 f150 4.6 exhaust manifold studs missing.engine noise ?
Hey... I was looking at my exhaust manifold..and I found a couple of studs missing...so if I want to replace both of them , is it better if I replace all of them on both sides of the engine ?
By the way..my exhaust manifold is good I don't think none of the studs are broken.. but I have been having this engine knocking noise on my engine, do yall think a couple of studs could be the problem of why my engine is knocking? Thanks

manifold studs
I have the same truck and manifold bolts. a couple need replacing, Rusted,, I get a ticking noise from that. probably the noise you are hearing,, gonna do new bolts and gasket, and bolt from manifold to exhaust pipe rusting out..good luck.. a few hours of work and some good bolts and gasket you should be all set,, a common issue with these..

I have a 2000 f150 and the exhaust manifold on the right side of my 5.4 liter is cracked between the #4 and 5 exhaust ports. You should hear the neat noise that makes. Plus there are exhaust studs broke off on both sides of the engine. I got a quote from the local auto shop. To replace both bad manifolds and put all new studs in it would cost me $1000 plus. The mechanic said it would probably be closer to 1500 than 1000. I dont have the time or the $ to get them fixed for now, so I will just deal with the noise. Maybe enough of the studs will break off, and the manifolds will change themselves.
