Texas State Inspection with 5-Star Tuning

I have a state inspection coming up on my truck. V-10 with 5-star tuning. What do you guys that have state emissions testing do if you have a tuner? Return to stock?

If they plug into the obd port to do emissions testing then yes you do. I have the same type on my navigator and when I tried to go through with it tuned it came up some monitors are not ready for testing. I have to tune it back to stock and drive it for a bit first.

Not In AZ. I have the tune but here they roll me on the dyno and test directly. Still passes no problem.

Well, procedures from state to state (and even from county to county) differ, so you cannot say with authority that what you have to do in NY, also means the OP has to do in Texas.

And with a V10, a person really has to be aware of both versions of emissions platforms for the 6.8L engine. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...ml#post3889931

Ok you are right, but if they do testing of any kind were they plug into your truck wouldn't it just be easier to tune to stock and get your inspection with no hassles, retune and be on your way. 😵

I edited my post because it didn't come out the way it sounded in my head. The words could be taken with a harsh edge and I meant it only as a, "Hey, don't forget about this..." kind of post.

What I was linking you to was information regarding the different emissions some V10's have that won't allow it to pass that readiness code, if I remember my reading correctly.

Which is not a given, not with my brain.

Here in PA my 6.8 EX needs to be plugged in and gets an idle tailpipe sniffer test for emissions inspection. I have run 5Star Tunes for the past 5 years or so, including every annual inspection check with no issues for the local tests. The ONLY time since I got the tuner that I didn't have a custom tune loaded was recently on a tow trip as a favor for Eric to compare stock vs tuned for towing heavy. I won't be doing that again, and Eric got the info and opinion he was looking for!

I was getting my travel trailer inspected on Friday. In conversation with the tech he said that as long as it's not throwing a trouble code it should pass. I had him run it just to see since I was there anyways and it passed with the 93 Eco Tune loaded in.
