Can I use this like a normal ball hitch ie will the latch fit once I get the trailer on the ball?

 

It's a pintle combo hitch. I use the same one, very heavy duty. I use the 2-5/16 ball 99% of the time, and yes you keep the pintle locked in the up position. Sometimes I rent equipment and the trailer has the pintle tongue connection only. In this case, the trailer slips over the ball, then you lock the pintle down so that the trailer cannot pop up and off. I really dislike towing that trailer, it always bangs around on the hitch everytime I stop and go.

 

Thanks RD I had already bought it and sure enough when i tried it won't latch down over the ball. I apologized to the seller for not doing my homework and they took it back.
hey bud hope you are having or had a great hunting trip. I had been thinking to ask you if I missed it somewhere does you 17 have a 48 gal tank?

 

I have the short bed, 34 gallon tank, that says "0" miles till empty and only takes 29-30, annoying. The long beds do have the 48 gallon, wish I did. Coastal Oregon Elk is always a fun hunt, got close to a spike, no bulls taken this year though.

 

Its not supposed to latch down onto the ball hitch. Its a combo for either a trailer with a "ring" , which you would latch the top down, or a ball, which you leave it up. I use one on all my trucks.

 

Thanks LG I understand now. I really liked it it was a serious chunk of heavy metal. I didnt like the fact that it didn't have any height adjustment but really without a lift I would figure it would have to be just about right coming out of the factory hitch.

 

Its one of those "hit or miss" hitches. If you own a single axle trailer , it wont matter. If you own a tanden or more, it may not be the hitch for you. Good for construction workers , tow a ring trailer with forklift and then hitch up the motar mixer. Most use a hitch that can be adjusted up or down. Still a good hitch though.

 

Those are great hitches I have one but it's adjustable up or down. Very heavy duty. Don't use it much since I sold my trailer with pintle hook. Might be time to sell it.
