Child Seat Safety Latch

Does the 2017 SD have the attachments for child seat LATCH system? I know it has the tether attachment at the top of the seat but the attachments for the LATCH system are the ones that are behind the seat at the bottom. There should be two for each seating position so there should be 6 of them. In the previous SD's they were not there. But, they are there in the F150 so I'm hoping that since the SD now uses the F150 cab they have put the LATCH attachments in place.

Actually all you need is 4 I believe, the 2 inboard for left and right can be used for the center position.

the gap in the middle is large tho, you can only use car seats that are rated for the large gap, basically the large ones, we have one of those expensive all in one and it's wide enuff for the middle as we have 2 more kids that fight if there isn't a baby divider lol but check with the max on the baby seat before taking the risk

I'm pretty sure it's a federal requirement...

Didn't apply to the previous super dutys though (not in the 2014) . It is a welcome edition though.

LATCH Summary
Looks like the super duties are exempt. "Requirements apply to all passenger cars, trucks, and multipurpose passenger vehicles under 8500 lbs." It is nice to see Ford adding them even though they are not required by law.

Are the Ford trucks over 8500 pounds curb weight? I thought they were less in the F350 SRW variety.

The weight is GVWR not curb weight. http://www.carseat.org/Legal/FMVSS225.pdf

Thanks for the quick replies. We have 3 small grandchildren and having the latch system sure will make getting them around a lot easier.

How big of a PITA is it to get toddlers into the seat and secure them? Haven't had a full sized truck after having kids. Do you need to jump in or can you lock them into the seat standing?

I'm short so I just stand on the side steps and strap them in. One on each side. No problem at all

It's nice when they can crawl in. My boy is 4 and has been getting himself in his seat for a while. I'm 5'10 and my '13 250 has about a 5" lift and it's no fun picking him up and over. For sure looking forward to the lower height of the new truck

There's another thread on this somewhere. I asked the same question on the top tether straps. I have a 1 year old and a 2 1/2 year old. The younger one sits in the middle and you use one of the latch locks of each side seat for the center car seat then the top latch goes through the tether and hooks to one side or the other of the top tethers. Then my 2 1/2 year old sits behind the drivers seat with the 2 lower latch locks and then the top strap goes through the tether and over to hook on the middle top tether to tighten up. Ford could've done better on this IMO but it works good after you get the hang of it. The tethers are hard to get the car seat top latches through at times but once in you can really tighten them up good!
