oil from case vent into air intake - not possible
as I take my accessories off the motor to get to the valve covers as part of a rocker arm replacement job.....Im looking at the engine vent on the oil fill case as well as looking at the inter cooler system. I do not see how its possible for oil from the engine vent to make it into the air intake system and actually make it into the engine.
heres why
the air with the oil mist in theory will leave the vent on the oil fill can, enter the air intake after the filter but before the 1st stage compressor. from there loop 180 degrees and enter the 2nd stage compressor. now, the part that makes this impossible.....after the 2nd stage comperessor, the air is sent to the intercooler. this means that the oil mist...would condensate within the intercooler. oil in theory should accumate at the bottom of the inter cooler and un oiled air should leave the inter cooler and into the engine.
I do not see how the case vent oil traps add any value since I do not see how it is possible for oil to make it throuh the inter cooler and actually make it into the engine.
a lot of folks have reported drilling drain holes to drain the fluids that accumalate in the intercooler so that kind of validates that the fluids are condensing and accumalating in the inter cooler.
someone explain to me how I am wrong and what the proof is.
I'll buy a vent trap if I can wrap my brain around how the fluids are making it thru the inter cooler.
