2007 Ford F-150 4x4 Misfire

I am new to this. I just bout a 07 f150 4x4 with 69 thousand miles less than a month ago. Since then the transmission has been rebuild but come to find out a misfire will cause overdrive to act up, and it just recently started misfiring badly. It was throwing a code. 2 coils were replaced and still misfiring. It's not throwing a code anymore. no check engine light flashing or nothing. Pep boys is stumped and recommended to take it to a dealer. I am completely lost as to what this problem may be. Somebody please help

You've already been shafted by one stupid mechanic who can't differentiate between a (vehicle characteristic) 'misfire under light load' and a torque converter clutch problem. Don't do it again by taking it to a dealer. Most likely THEY will tell you that you need a new motor like so many have reported here.

Based on the limited information given here, I would bet 99% of the farm that you need to replace all eight spark plugs, COP Boots & springs (NOT COP's themselves), in a very careful, meticulous, clean mechanic like manner using only Motorcraft SP515 plugs.

thanks. It's all under warranty but I'm ready to have my truck back. I've heard that these spark plugs are bad about breaking off. They just needed the dealer to help diagnose it because they're scan tool will show more than pep boys will. I've done a lot of mechanic work before but this one has me stumped.

I went through this on my 2007 years ago. It was the plugs and COPs. I can almost guarantee that is your issue.

Yes. It's missing on cylinders 1 and 7. Well stupid me I replaced 5 and 8 today. It did make a difference but still has a bad skip. So tomorrow I'll be back under the hood replacing 1 and 7 and that should fix it. But this weekend when I have more time I'm gonna replace the rest of them because once one goes they all pretty much go

Do you have the Lisle extractor tool? Might want to rent it before you do the other two. Will save you a lot of headache if one breaks on you.

Yes. It is the Lisle part# 65600 and you can rent it at a local auto parts store. Here is a video explaining how to use it.

Great!

My '07 is up not far from 58,xxx and I know it's a good idea to change them sooner rather than later. I bought the Lisle tool a few years ago about the same time we bought a '08 GT which has a 4.6-3v but it's only got about 30,xxx miles. Still .... good purchase I think.

Thank You .... I had not yet looked at a video for a simple reason .... my Verizon 4G network plan was limited in data .... but recently I swapped over to a new plan with a bunch more and suddenly I can check out a few videos .... and after looking at that video, I see how handy that Lisle tool really is.

My '07 F150 5.4 3V now has a little over 217,000 miles on it. I changed the plugs the first time at 95,000 miles. I bought the Lisle tool just in case I broke plugs. Fortunately I didn't need it, all eight plugs came out without breaking.
I posted a thread on how I did it.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ug-change.html
The second time I changed the plugs was at 193,000 miles, followed the same procedure and had the same results, none broke.
I still have the Lisle tool, and if I never use it, that's fine with me. It will still have been a good investment just from the standpoint of peace of mind.
