Con's for removing exhaust heat shield?

In the past couple of weeks, my truck has developed an awful exhaust rattle. From what I can tell, seems maybe the spot welds on my exhaust pipe heat shield have broken loose. Rather than attempt to put some tack welds on it, I'm thinking I'll just cut the entire thing off.

Has anyone else done this? Any con's to my plan that maybe I'm not considering?

I use large metal hose clamps and took care of the rattle. Might have to put 2 together. Or rivets.

Long ago, when I still had the stock exhaust on it, I just pulled them off. I can't imagine those shields are doing much.

I feel like heat shields might be important for catalytic converters.

But on an exhaust pipe its probably just to control heat and noise.

Since i I deleted my cats last year I've been fantasizing about wrapping the new pipes or installing some kind of shield to control noise. Its tinny sounding ever since.

I took the grinder to mine today, and off it came. 3 of the 6 original spot welds were already broken.

First test drive minus the heat shield was last night. The awful rattle is gone.

Mine is doing the same. Putting a Jones 3030xl on and taking the heat shields off when it is done. Drives me nutz. Wife says it is a short drive, just put keys in hand and I am there!

I can't tell any difference at all in exhaust volume.
