Hello everyone first of all I would like to apologize if I seem a bit lost. I'm a new member so I'm still learning my way around. I have been a long time reader as I have been restoring a 66 F100 short bed I picked up about a year ago. I have learned so much from everyone on this forum and would like to thank you guys for all the help eventhow I was not a member. Ok back to my question, I know that these tool boxes are hard to come by but would anyone be able to lead me in the right direction to where I can find one??? I'm actually just missing the door and hinge and once again it's for a 66 F100 short bed.
Thanks
Thanks
here's this one

Gary, I'll take some pictures for you in a little while - but it is the combination of the hook on the back of the movable latch handle and the clevis pin that holds the handle to the main plate - both of those in tandem allow the movement of the handle to push down on the latch and spring.

Gary, the handle with the lock in it seems to be missing the hooks. The hooks on the back side are spot welded to the handle and it's the hooks that do all of the work of both containing and pushing the spring and latch down. The example here is missing one of the 2 hooks but you can see what they look like. Mirror opposites of each other.

One other thing to note - I don't believe you'd want to drive your truck down the road too far without the tool box being locked. Reason is if it's not locked then the handle can pivot outward and the weight of the internal latch will likely push the spring down when going over bumps so the handle can pivot outward as the latch moves down and the door could fall open. A good new spring might help, and even a slightly longer spring might hold it shut with no issues at all, but the beauty of the lock being locked is then the handle holds the latch in it's upward position and the spring wouldn't be impacted by going over bumps since the latch can't move in this case.
As Dave E. says food for thought....anyway.

Looking for a tool box latch assembly
I know know this is an old post. Anyone have any leads on where I might find one of these latch assembly kits?
Thanks
Thanks
Both of these lock assemblies came in the kits. I wonder how many more of these kits are out there? Interesting about an F100 being a 99A and an F250 being a 99B. The difference in the size of these templates gives some idea of the difference in sizes of the two boxes (SWB versus LWB).
