Fuel Leak: Sound like the drain valve?
Background info: 2001 7.3 Diesel Excursion 140,000 miles 1st time cold since having bought the truck.
Yesterday morning it was pretty cool outside so my wife started the truck to let it warm while we loaded everything for a short trip. Maybe 8 to 10 minutes went by and I was walking to the door and noticed two pools forming on the ground. I had changed the oils the night before and thought it was oil but it turned out to be fuel. One leak was dripping down the front of the block and on the axle. The other leak was coming down the back of the block and dropping off the transmission inspection plate. We have been smelling fuel periodically when running the vent and there was a small amount in the valley but yesterday was like an artery had been hit. From what I have read sounds like fuel bowl drain valve leak but the amount of fuel dripping down makes me second guess it could be something else. Thoughts....suggestions? If the valve, I was leaning toward a rebuild. Suggestions on where to buy full kit?

It's easy enough to check the fuel bowl for leaks. Feel the fittings, lines, and drain valve area for moisture. I had a similar smell a few months ago, little bit of fuel on the ground here and there. I ordered a fuel bowl rebuild kit from dieselorings.com. Fairly straightforward to rebuild and re-seal, just watch you don't drop the little cap and spring for the plunger. They're small and extremely bouncy.

Fuel Bowl Parts and O-rings - 1999-2003 Ford 7.3L
Ford - 99-03 Super Duty 7.3L - Fuel System & Related - Fuel System O-rings, Sleeves & Hoses - Riffraff Diesel Performance
Both are Supporting Vendors.
Also, don't look at where the fuel is ending, check back up top with the engine running and locate the source. The likely culprit will either be a rub in the fuel line, where the lines connect to the head, where they connect to the fuel bowl, or the fuel bowl itself.
