Who is selling the new rear end gears for our trucks?

I know there was a thread not too long ago about the higher gears for the rear ends in our F1's and F100's. The experienced ones said it was easier than to do than finding and installing a 9 inch rear end.

I've searched for the thread and couldn't find it.

So, who sells them? How much are they? What gear choices are available? What ratio do you suggest?

I currently have 3.92 differential so it is a Dana, right?

Thanks.

I have since found some other threads, also. I looked at summit and also Randy's.

What have we decided on the gear ratio that is best? 3.73, 3.54 or 3.31?

I typed a long, descriptive post on what you need and why if you want to swap gears in these old 44's and then my computer ate it. I'm over it now and have lost interest in retyping the whole thing.

Here's the short version:

If you want to put 3.73:1 or numerically lower gears in your truck's original Dana 44, you need a different differential carrier for 19 spline axle shafts and 3.73 and down gears. That sucks because either Dana/Spicer never made the one we need or they're extremely rare. All the 3.73 and down carriers you will find used are for 30 spline axle shafts. No, you can't swap side gears, no you can't take shortcuts, no, no, no, no, no. You have to have a 3.73 and down carrier for 19 spline shafts.

Thankfully, they are available brand new from the aftermarket - at a price, of course. Here are some links:

I'm also interested in doing this
Carrier, gears and install kit are around $750 from Yukon and $450 from ECGS

This dose not include spider gears, can you re-use the spider gears from the original carrier ?

Yes. The new carrier comes empty and ready to transfer all of your old differential gears into. For what it's worth, I personally prefer Dana Spicer original equipment gears but they're pricey. Dana SVL is their lower cost line designed to compete with the aftermarket. The Dana SVL sets I've used have set up well also.
