need to get through firewall for fuel pressure gauge

Got my fuel pressure gauge from Riffraff. Best way to get through firewall with the leads from the sender to the meter? Tried to run a search, but didn't find anything.

Thanks,

Steve

I ran it through the diamond shaped grommet on the firewall above the PCM. EGT and boost too.

There are also 4 wires available for customer use that pass from engine bay to interior. Probably neater but that requires 2 more splices and I like simple.

Going with horizontal or vertical mount on the sensor? Have gasoila for sealant?

The Autometer comes with the horizontal fitting for the filter housing and I also have the ell from Riffraff so I thought I would do whichever is easiest. Since the Autometer has a plug for the meter and for the sender, I have to have a hole for the plug to the meter. The meter includes a 1" grommet and I think I have 3/4" on my service truck, which may work. But hey, if I can go through an existing on the firewall, I will.

I don't have gasoila, but I do have the yellow teflon paste that is approved for use with gases, etc. I can pick up some gasoila up if, in your experience, it works better. I was going to use some between the fitting to the sender where there is no rubber gasket.
The fitting to the filter housing has the rubber gasket on the ell fitting. My thought is selant at any connection that does not have a gasket.

Thanks,

Steve

I believe you have an automatic, if so there should be a grommet where the clutch actuator would go through the firewall that you can use. I had to drill a hole in the firewall because I have a ZF6 manual, but it all went well.

What SOUS said. Unfortunatly for me I did not notice it untill after I drilled a hole for my gauges.

Now I am waiting for the paint I ordered to paint the mount that goes on the steering column. I am also out of small split loom. What a pain trying to find quality black split loom locally in the small size. Trying to track that down so I have everything before I start working.

Thanks all,

Steve

Steve,
Don't know here you are but I found mine at NAPA. I believe that is was in a roll vs the pre cut 2' lengths as well.

Good thought. Thanks. I have to drive a little to get some. I hate the thin blue or red at Advance. I thought if I couldn't find something decent, I would use it temporarily and order some.

Good idea to install the gauge mount temporarily. Many folks need to trim it a bit to allow full throw of the shifter, best to get that squared away before painting.

Another issue regarding the mount: on mine the wires for the gauge are visible thru the shifter slot from the passenger side. Thinking I'll paint the wires black. Or use the small wire loom?

There is some debate about mounting the FP sensor horizontally or vertically. Some had failures with horizontal and success with vertical. Isspro replaced the sensors under warranty w/o problem, IIRC. I think the little brass snubber Sous mentioned is the solution either way.

I mentioned the gasoila because plain teflon tape is a no no here. It's post filter so any tidbits of tape would go straight to the injectors. Long as your goop is diesel rated I bet it's fine.

Thanks, I knew not to use tape and I am going to trial fit tomorrow and see how it comes together.

See if you have some wires under the hood in front of the steering wheel that are just cut off. There would be 4 of them (I think). The other end is under the dash to the right of the steering wheel. You can use them too if they are there.

Thanks, but then I would have to cut and splice the clip that attaches to the meter. Since it comes with a complete sensor to meter cable with a plug on each end, I would like to avoid splices where possible as I feel it just opens the door to possible problems down the road.

Agreed. I would save those wires for something else then.
