Oil Cooler removal - no coolant out of block plug?

I removed the oil cooler yesterday, and followed the steps I've read about.

Drained coolant (via radiator drain) Removed oil filter, and removed plug on driver side of the block, however no coolant came out? That seemed odd to me.
What made it stranger was when I cracked the cooler free, coolant sprewed out the front neck... What happened? Is my block plug clogged up or something?
Is there a chance some of that coolant got in the oil? It sort of caught me by surprise.

Did you remove the block heater separately, and if so, did any come out then?

I did not remove the block heater.. I think that may have been my mistake; that purges the coolant out of the cooler itself right? I wouldve thought draining the block wouldve been fine, but when no coolant came out I was confused

Must of been clogged at the plug hole. If you would have stuck a screw driver or what ever in there I beg you would have gotten a bath. A boat motor did that to me once. Time for a coolant filter!

This is what I'm afraid of.
Ill be doing a very thorough flush of the system once reinstall the cooler. I'll make sure to verify water drains out of that plug.

I'm wondering If i should remove the starter and verify flow out of the other block drain too now.. Only 6 gallons came out of the truck.. shouldnt more have come out??

I was planning on using cascade and doing a proper flush since I started seeing oil in the overflow.. however when I drained the coolant I was surprised to see it wasn't as bad as I thought.

Im going to remove the t-stat and properly flush the system out before adding Fleetcharge SCA coolant.

You got the hard one to get out. The one above the starter is a square plug and easier to get ahold off to get out. I've done it with the starter in but its easier with the starter out especially if it hasn't been taken out before. Might be stuck a little. When I left the starter in I put a piece of sheet metal over the starter so coolant wouldn't do any thing to the starter. Don't know if it would or not?

Strange, the only one I saw was directly behind the starter.. There is one above it too?

The one I removed on the driver side was a square plug..

HUMMMM, maybe I said that wrong. The one on the drivers side is a hexagon plug, the one above or behind, however you want to look at it is a square headed plug. If you had a square plug on the drivers side that's unusual.

From reading, I believe there is a plug that, when removed, you can see inside the block. This is typically used by SD owners wanting to see if they have powder metal rods or the forged rods we have. Maybe this is the plug you removed? Can you shine a light in it and see what you can see?

I am an idiot, i removed the wrong plug...

I put my cooler back together, flushed the engine out.. filled it up and realize my end housing (where the oil filter mounts to) is cracked

Anyone have a spare laying around by chance? I just need the end cap (filter end)
