Looking at a 2008 F-350 6.4.......
Looking at possibly buying a 2008 F350, CC, SRW, 4X4, LARIAT, "6.4" and the truck is loaded (DVD player, nav system, ranch hand brush guard, aftermarket wheels & 35" tires, etc). HAve been reading good and bad about the 6.4. Have watched powerstrokedieselhelp.com videos to stay away from high milage 6.4's, but this one is under 50,000 miles and has had a complete delete (egr, def, programmer, wicked wheel, complete exhaust, etc.) Truck has been very well cared for and maintained.
Just a little nervous about the 6.4 powerstrokes. I had an 03, 6.0 and ford bought the lemon back. This would be my 1st diesel since then (as I've been in Chevy 2500 gasers since) and hate to move back into a possible problem truck. Asking low 30'self for it. What does everyone think?
Thanks PSDboy

I am wondering why this truck only has 50k on the odometer and it has been deleted? I get some people dont drive them all the time, but the mileage for the year seems a little too low.
Now it could be the case, but I am a little skeptical of the mileage. It doesnt make a lot of sense that someone would delete it at such low mileage but it is entirely possible. I would go to a Ford dealer with the VIN of teh truck and get an Oasis report pulled and get a car fax or auto check pulled as well. This way you will see if the mileage is true or not.
Next thing I would do is ask for maintenance records and crawl all over and under the truck. I would definitely take this to a Ford Dealer if you are seriously looking at it and get them to check the engine over and test it for compression and whatever other test in IDS, check to make sure everything is all good.
The 6.4's can be good trucks but people also like to dump them if they are a problem child and that is something you dont want. It may cost you a couple bucks but see if the seller will split the cost with you on having Ford look it over.
I would start there, last thing you want to do is buy a truck and then have to spend thousands more to get it running.
You could always go with the 6.2 Gasser they have been really good trucks and you could get a pretty good low mileage one for 30k. I guess the next question to ask you is are you doing and heavy pulling with a trailer or driving long distances with a heavy trailer. short commutes? long commutes?

This is a good point, you could buy a decent used 6.7 for this price point, and it definitely wouldnt have all the issues that a 6.4 may have.. food for thought

The current owner uses it as a weekend driver and pulls a a trailer maybe five times a year. He has a work car and runs it most of the time. This truck sets in the garage out of the weather. The owner of it deletes everything, and deleted his previous diesel / dmax, when it had 30,000 miles. This 6.4 books on kbb for 26 and nada for 33.
I would be using it as a weekend warrior and to pull my compact tractor JD 3020. We have a 2012 6.7 at work and it came apart at 6,000 miles. It is maintained well and ford said the turbo came apart and caused the destruction of it. Been a little leary of a 6.7 ever since, including this 2012 with updated 2015 motor. Been looking for a nice 7.3 or a 6.0 but people are pricing these trucks out of site.
