I got out to the shop today to slide another shaft in that sterling. I wanted to check the driveshaft and u joints first. Without any shafts in the rear and with it in 2wd I dropped it in gear and looked underneath. I had a vibration since I put that 1410 yoke on it and wondered where it came from. As I looked at the driveshaft spinning I couldn't believe it.....dang thing was jumping up and down probably 1-2 inches at the rear of the shaft. I guess when the bars bent and the pinion yoke broke it had also bent the pinion shaft too. That's a bummer because that 410 axle was going back in my 2wd truck till it gets a cummins. 3:55's with the 460 empty is fine but loaded it wasn't idea (or ideal..i truck not spell)

That 80 hub had some broken studs on the passenger side. Some came out and others didn't. Center drill and easy outs didn't work either because when they broke they messed the threads up so it won't back out. Searched and searched by couldn't find another 70 or 80 hub close by so I drilled new holes in the bad hub. The drivers side still had the factory bolts in it and they were still tight.

More problems. The studs that I put in last night before I left broke. I used a 3/8 impact just to pull the axle in and seal up the silicone. I don't feel they were too tight and I don't think they were broken before I left. I remember looking at them because I was 2 nuts short. But when I got there this morning 1 was busted off and no where to be found. The axle is hanging on the gantry from when I unloaded it. Figure it shot off into to grass but couldn't find it. Weird.

Then on the other side I found that it had spun an outer bearing and scared the spindle.i checked Craigslist and found a dana 70 about 40 miles away. That'll be spare hubs and I'll cut the spindles off and have them bored to fit 37 spline shafts. But to get this axle in and rolling I mixed up some liquid metal stuff and built up the bad area and cleaned the inside of the splindle. It'll work for this weekend but not long term

I got worried about that bearing seat on the outer bearing so I cut the spindles off and welded the surface up and turned it down on the lathe. I also bored the inside of the spindles to 1.630 so when I break a 35 spline shaft I can upgrade to the 37 spline shaft. I used an 1 5/8's alignment bar to weld the spindles back on and welded the center section to the tubes. I'm waiting for some bearings to come in and then it's time to make some anti-wrap spring mounts and put it in. A local shop wanted at least 1000 dollars just to fix 1 spindle. Nope

Beautiful bead.

And yeah, that bearing seat idea seemed horribly sketchy. If the weight made any kind of indent in that liquid metal, god knows the result. I would have been more likely to build up a little metal with a couple sticks, then grind down. Or since you have a lathe couldn't you have turned the filler down?

I was trying to get it together for a pull last weekend but ended up not being a pull so I had time to fix it right Plus I got to bore them for the bigger shafts. I don't have a lathe but I do know where one is that is available 24hrs

Also Ruffstuff makes a spindle mount that welds onto the end of an axle that you can mount a dana 60 front spindle on. The front dana 60 has the same size bearings as most of the rear hubs that I've been messing with the last couple of days. I think a guy could make a pretty cool setup with this. I wish I would have found it sooner and I probably would have went this way.
