Family 56 rebuild thread.

BJ,
(no way trying to hijack your thread, hoping I can share and help just a little?) I tend to agree with 52 Merc, I would not be afraid to start to clean and fill these seams over the rough weld joints. I have done some rough work on tractor fenders that should have been thrown away and with some time and many thin layers of filler, and lots of sanding, they are going to look presentable. I am sure your cab will turn out just as good or better. And don't beat yourself up! This was not in your control! Recovery is everything! Maybe something like short strand Dura-glass (if they still make it might be a excellent base in the deep areas??
I am including several pictures of my rough fender projects, maybe this will give you hope!.
Lower left corner of rear fender for Allis WD45 (not in good shape, very rusty and bent up)
patch tacked in place
Rusted out center support area of fender
new patch for center
In primer after the new patches, they still dont look very good.
Several coats of filler
in primer (better)
As you can see I am not a body man. I just refurb/ repair/ clean and paint.
I think your cab will turn out good. The key is to remember that you have taken out all the rust and have good solid foundation.
Regards,
Chris

Wow, Time flies when you don’t have your truck to work on. Actually it’s too cold to work on right now. I’ve been pursuing CL wouldn’t you know it I found another Panel, a 53 I might add. Well the gotta have it sickness kicked in and it’s mine. Drove out to Lecompton, KS and stuffed it in the barn. No Room for my truck at the bodyshop now.
53 Panel!
Thinking about making it into a Unibody????

Well I bought a interior for my non exsistant truck today. Actually, it’s still in the 2nd body shop going on a year. One can wish can’t they? Here’s the Fleabay Pics. It’s supposed to be everything except a seat cover. Oh Yea. I bought it in Grey. If I ever get to install it I’ll let you know how it goes.
No seat covers but everything else.
Grey is supposed to look like this headliner.
