I was changing my oil yesterday in my aerostar. I got all the oil drained and the plug back in, then went to pull the filter to replace that. So I try by hand at first and it wont budge... then I try with the wrench repetedly and all it's doing it bending the crap out of the filter... so now I result to cursing myself out for putting it in so tight last time....
I go for one last try with the wrench and I got sloppy and hit the positive lead on the starter with the wrench and popped my self, not much power but it'll make you jerk your hand off it, and then you hit all kind of stuff with the back of your hand... I ended up pulling the battery cables and went back under and forced the filter out.... It was kicking and screaming the whole way out...
I finnaly got smart yesterday and put a little white grease on the replcament before putting it in! Hopefully this will avoid a repeat of this.....
BTW: I used a MotorCraft Filter, and Castrol GTX 10w40.
Let this be a lesson to you all... put the grease on the filter... if it wont come out easily disconnect the battery and make it come out!
I have been shocked by my Aerostar but it wasnt from changing the filter. I went to hand adjust the distributor to get the timing close enough to check and I found out that I had a cracked plug boot. Got the engine running but killed it by arcing directly from the ignition coil to ME. Recovered five minutes later after convulsing on the floor of my van. Is definately not something that I want to repeat.
